Well, I had a really good week. . had a calorie deficit all but one day, worked out 5 out of 7 days, so a half pound is a little disappointing, but I'll take it. I did another water aerobics class this morning at 7. I really felt the last class in my arms and chest, so I'm shooting for Tuesdays and Thursdays every week. I've done a couple of really fun "dance works" classes, and they're great too. So, I'm glad I've found some new options.

Lois, wow the heat is ON where you live! It's hot here too, but not like that. I ordered a new treadmill, and got an email that it's "iFit" compatible, and they will give me a 6 month free trial. I guess it lets you hike in the Grand Canyon and other places virtually. Hubby wants to try that. (He's not much for the dance classes and water aerobics.) Is anything like that available on yours? Or, maybe there are DVD's out there similar? Seems like a good way to distract from the tedium of the old dreadmill! It is boring!!

Sarah, forgot to answer your question . . . I read that article at my daughters house in Oregon when I was recently there. It was in a health magazine she gets . . a serious one, not fluff . . but I can't remember the name of it. I'll ask her when I next talk to her.

Thanks, Sheesh. I thought maybe there was a URL I missed. And wow, my friend. You had a great week. I would count any week that I moved on five days and did some new things, as a good one. Wish I could dance! I'm way too much entertainment for others when I try. Elaine on Seinfeld has nothing on me!

We were up before 5 a.m. today to get my friend to BWI to catch an 8 a.m. flight. With rush hour traffic and time needed for security, etc., we had to be on the way by 6 a.m. I'm glad that school has not started back (traffic is a bit lighter) and that it was daylight and not raining. I was back and working by 8:45, but I'm beginning to feel the toll. When I must be up earlier than usual, I just don't sleep as soundly either.

I didn't try to log food while she was here, so I have no idea how my intake has been for the past five days. I tried to be mindful and not continue eating after I was full, which was about the best I could do. We ate on the go a lot, and so I didn't eat the healthiest (except for meals here at home), but we'll see when I get on the scale tomorrow.

I am getting concerned that Light is not checking in now that she has her new Surge. Is she communicating with you ladies via Fitbit? I miss her.

I am also getting concerned about my walking friend. She left me a voice mail a few weeks ago about walking. I returned the call and said I'd try be available any night, just let me know--and I haven't heard from her since. Her voicemail box is full, so I couldn't leave a message on her cell today.

You know, it's inevitable that as time goes on, I won't be able to do as much as I can now, so I really want to keep moving while I can. It's too hot and muggy to go outside today--and to be honest--I don't know if I have the oomph to walk anywhere--inside or out. But hopefully, I'll get a good night's sleep tonight and can start my new weigh-in week tomorrow with some gusto!

Sarah, Light is my friend on Facebook and I've seen some posts there. Also, she joined a few of us last week for a Fitbit challenge, so she seems fine as far as I can tell. . and the news feed on MFP showed her logging her food. I think she's in a busy time, like happens to all of us. Hope you had a good visit with your friend. And, it sounds like you're gearing up to lay some tracks in that mall or somewhere! :) I'll check back tomorrow.

Well, post friend's visit I'm up about a half pound, which is not too bad considering that I had high sodium day yesterday with two servings of cheese and one of cottage cheese. BUT--compared to the week before last, I'm up 2.4 pounds, and that's totally unacceptable. So I'm going to do my best to log food multiple times a day so I make corrections as needed and not just bemoan my fate the next day.

Wish I could say that I got a call-back from my walking friend, but I didn't. I'm worried since she was having some health issues last time we walked. I do so hope that she's okay and that we can walk together again, but I think I also need to form some other "walking buddy" relationships, and that's up to me.

Both hubby and I are having a back problem this morning. We've both been hit with a very sore painful area around one scapula. It's odd. We've not done anything physical out of the ordinary or slept in a different bed. This has happened before, and we've both had some mild stomach issues, so it makes me wonder if this is something viral in nature. So weird! I'm just NOT going to let this keep me from getting in some activity today--but OUCH!!! :#

So no hoopla about the reduction. Over the weekend I survived a dead battery in my car when heading out to work out (was covered under warranty - thank goodness) and then my permanent bridge became not so permanent when the back supporting tooth cracked and the whole thing came out. Monday morning I went to the dentist. The back tooth was so decayed it had to be removed. Unfortunately neither of us anticipated that it would crumble as he took it out. Over an hour later (and novacaine starting to wear off) dentist finally got the last pieces out. He was sweating and I was crying from the pain. He game me good meds, which I filled on my way home. OMG IT WAS HORRIBLE!! the pain got away from me and damn did I feel like I was going to bleed out. Anyway after changing the gauze and taking the meds, to lala land I went for a couple of hours. Late that night, nausea and fainting followed (thank goodness hubby was home when it happened). I don't remember much after that, but I stayed home yesterday and slept and took advil all day. My mouth is still sore and still a bit puffy. Made mac n cheese for lunch today. Couldn't eat it yesterday so only had two and part of a protein shake. Hoping to get egg and pasta down me today...but I have protein shakes if that's all I can handle as well. I wish the tooth could have waited until Friday to come out, but it was cutting up my tongue in the back from the jagged edges. Now I'm definitely considering implants..so chaching for end of year!!

Anyway...I had a reduction....at work and getting ready to run in to my first meeting of the day. Everyone should love me today...I can barely talk...hahaha.

Oh, gosh, Lois. I am so sorry. Makes my back thing seem like nothing! I had some dental woes earlier this year. It's always something! When that was going on, I asked a friend, "why me?" And she said, "Because it's your turn." LOL

Hope you feel better as the day goes on and that the pain soon subsides entirely.

Lois, you poor thing! That kind of pain is the worst. Sending you feel better thoughts today. <3

Finally heard from my walking buddy on Wednesday night, and we met for a nice hour-long walk last night. It felt so good. :) She has a great pace, plus I've missed her friendship. Turns out that she disappeared because she is having to shoulder some extended family issues that make my problems seem a whole lot smaller. Besides the exercise, it does me a world of good to just get out of my own head.

We have a full weekend ahead, but I hope that I can get in some good activity, too. We're going to meet some friends tomorrow night to celebrate one of their birthdays, but the restaurant is Peruvian, so that means good grilled chicken and so I should be okay.

On Sunday, we've been invited to the Nats game. One of hubby's friends has recently remarried, and he and his new wife were given tickets for what he describes as "awesome seats." Don't know what that means, but you know how much I love my Nats, and so I'm excited. I will need to think ahead about food, as half-smokes and fries are so easy to succumb to at a game.

Hope everyone has a great Friday.

So happy that you're walking friend is back, Sarah. Enjoy your weekend, especially the baseball game :) I would love to see them play, especially your outfielder Bryce Harper. . such a good player and a good guy.

Thanks, Sheesh. We entered this season with such high hopes, but we've had so many injuries, and now--even with some key players back, we're still having trouble being the ball team we should be. Bryce Harper is someone I think people will read about in the future. Utah must be proud of him! In last night's game, which we lost to a team that we should have been able to handily beat, Bryce made a great catch in the right field, and then was able to also quickly make an unbelievable pitch from the far outfield to home plate. You just shake your head.

Now a question to all you ladies. We've pretty much agreed that the key to attaining a desirable weight is intake. Every now and then--and it's happening now--I'll have an increase in appetite that makes staying within my allotted calorie level very difficult to achieve. It's never easy, but most of the time, I'm dealing with just enjoyment of food egging me on. But then during times, it's like a hunger button gets pushed. I think I eat good quality foods, but I wonder if there's something missing in my diet. Or is this some kind of menopausal thing? I'm really bad at remembering to take vitamins. I can't take anything in the morning because that's when I take my thyroid pill. You're not supposed to take anything else for several hours. Logically, I should take vitamins at lunch time, but for some reason, I don't remember it. I've even put them on my desk. It's like I'm my own worst enemy in this respect. And that may have nothing to do with these hunger periods.

Anyway, I was wondering if any of you are or have experienced this and how you handle it.

Yes, Sarah, we love him. Especially U of U fans (because he said he hates BYU :D )

As far as hunger, eating more protein and fat satisfies more. I don't take "vitamins", just calcium, D, magnesium, and sometimes zinc. If I'm feeling low on energy, I take a b-complex liquid, under the tongue supplement in the morning to get going. Also, be ready for hunger when you up your workouts! Just have to manage it with snacks and meal timing. Nuts work great. I've also heard of people taking olive oil right off the spoon! I haven't tried that but it would make me not want to eat anything for a while!

Oh my goodness. That is a gorgeous ballpark. The closest minor league park to us is the Frederick Keys, which the Orioles, and its nothing like that. Nationals Park is nice, but it would be much nicer if you see the monuments from there.

It was an incredibly beautiful day weatherwise. I did the grocery shopping, we spent some time at the pool, and then we met about 20 friends for dinner. With the ballgame tomorrow, this weekend is going to go by way too fast.

I think you're right about protein and hunger. I sat next to a woman tonight who is 65, looks fabulous, and is slim and trim. She said she watches sugar and carbs and eats lots of vegetables and good quality meats i.e., mostly wild caught fish, grass fed beef, and free-range, no hormones chicken. That's an expensive way to eat, but then if you don't take care of your health, you end up spending the money in other ways.

As much as I love baseball, I don't think I'm going to any more day games during the summer months unless I'm sure my seat is in the shade. Our seats yesterday were a few rows back from the home dugout, which meant that I got to see the players up close, and that was great. But those seats stayed in the sun for the entire game. We got there about 1 p.m., and by the third inning, I was feeling unwell. We took a break in a covered area, and I made it through the game, but for the remainder of the day, I did not feel like my usual self. We usually sit on the visitor side that becomes shady during the second half of the game. The temps were only in the high 80's (not bad for late August) and the humidity was fairly low, but I still think I was beginning to get heat exhaustion.

Once I got home, I recovered enough to take about a 2-mile walk while chatting with my sister by cell. I knew I needed to do both, so I multi-tasked. I'm going to do my dead-level best to get in some activity every day this week and to watch the sugar and carbs. I heard the Ben & Jerry's "coffee, coffee, buzz, buzz, buzz" calling my name last night--but I didn't answer. As Lois would say, Bwahahahaha! :D

So as of this morning I'm back at 197.8. My mouth is still extremely sore and I see the dentist this afternoon to see if something's gone wrong or what (after all - it is ME and you know how that goes - NEVER EASY). I've been using gauze with a couple of drops of clove oil to help ease the pain, and it's helpful for a little bit. I've barely made 6k steps on one day this past week. I've been eating horribly as I wasn't prepared for a soft food kind of week and it's been 110+ so soup is just HOT! Thursday night, I was running around texting friends and neighbors as I had my 8 chicken breasts I hadn't been able to eat. I did find happy homes for them by 730 and then I went to bed for the night. But dag nab it. Yesterday, in hopes of eating in the next couple of days, I did prepare my veggies and only 4 chicken breasts that hubby can eat and i will pick at IF i'm able to eat. I figure the veggies I can nuke until really soft and then try eating them (haven't tried yet).

I did make this chicken, lime, avocado soup on Saturday. It was ok but again, I'm very hot after eating it. I need to find a way to get the protein and fiber in me to fill me up. I'm a getting hungry. Sarah I know how you feel. But it is protein and fiber that are the good filler uppers.

We are headed for a cool down this week. I think the high is 107 and dropping to 105 for a couple of days this week. Sadly back to 110+ over the weekend. I want to get back out and hit the trails. Also, August and early Sept is when we have our "monsoon", afternoon/evening dust and thunderstorms which removes our "dry heat" and makes it yucky sticky and HOT. So going outside is icky. It was too hot and yucky to hang out in the pool yesterday.

    That's my rant.

Sarah - glad you've got your walking buddy back! Watch your intake and increase the protein and the fiber
Sheesh - keep up with your aerobics and golf!! I love the view of your ballpark. The mountains are so pretty!!!

Yesterday was a perfect example of a day that--intake wise--felt like a good one, but when my food log was complete, it was far from it. My waterloo was (1) having left over pasta with meat sauce for lunch instead of the usual yogurt and fruit or salad with cottage cheese, and (2) eating potato chips with the burgers we had for dinner. Hubby's work was very busy yesterday and he was training at 7 p.m. last night, so when I got back from walking in the mall (it was raining, so outside walking was nixed), I scrambled to get some food ready. Therefore, it was a burgers, baked beans and chips kind of night. I felt like quantity was okay throughout the day. It wasn't how much I ate, but what I ate. The handful of pistachios I had as a snack would have been fine, but combined with some of the other foods--not so fine. I ended up with too many calories, too much fat, and too much salt.

This is an excellent example of why I cannot afford to not log my food. And it's an example of why it would be much better for me to look at the day's total and plug in my intended dinner beforehand. Of course, when hubby's blood sugar is plummeting and he's already grouchy because he has been in pain all day from his neck, sitting down to the computer instead of getting the food on the stove may not be a choice I would make--but it would have made a difference.

So I am going to try to log more faithfully. I'm also still aiming at planned activity every day, even if I have to trudge alone. I called my walking friend yesterday, but just had to leave a message. Hubby's unable to walk now, and is headed to the pain clinic on Thursday. I've tapped another friend for walking and need to touch base with her again. She's younger and stronger and should challenge me.

Lois, the high temps and monsoons sound dreadful, but this winter you'll be enjoying beautiful temps while we freeze. Hope the tooth issue is soon resolved. Pain in the mouth is hard to take for very long, so I'm thinking about you and sending you positive vibes!

Our temps today are unseasonably cool (high around 85) and the humidity is unusually low. It's like a gift from heaven and I hope to get a chance to get out and enjoy it some. Did anyone read that article about how working long hours increases your risk of stroke? I'm going to thing about that when I'm tempted to do "just one more thing."
