Newbie

I am new to mfp and just diagnosed as a prediabetic. I am so green. looking to lose weight for sure, that is a given but this whoe new eating lifestyle is a bit overwhelming. How does one start? What should I avoid first? I know beyond a doubt that carbs is a weakness, it always has so I am going to go whole grain for breads instead of the basic white. Could sure use some input and some support. Does anyone come here?
