mindful eating?

Has anyone tried to do mindful eating? Smelling the food before you eat it, then tasting it before you swallow it and then taking small bites and chewing it a while before you swallow it for a minute or so at a time.

I did this with my coffee and I realized big time how much the creamer and sugar and other things mask the coffee flavor. I realized how much I don't like coffee at all, and if I actually don't like it, why am I drinking it? Sure, I drink coffee when I'm trying to wake up or am tired, etc., but there is no point in drinking all of this creamer when I'm trying to lose weight.

Have you been surprised about eating certain foods that you realized you don't like so much or don't like the taste all along?

In the past I have had a bad habit of just wolfing down my food...especially if I allowed myself to get famished. I am trying to NOT do that anymore. I'm also trying to not nibble or snack. I am trying to eat because I am hungry, not because I am bored, or just wanting to eat. And when I eat, I try to focus on what I'm eating. Smell it, taste it, and enjoy it thoroughly; and then stop when I'm full.
