Hi, all,

When I was first diagnosed in 2012 I tested so many times a day, out of anxiety I think, but also in order to get a handle on how my body reacts to food, exercise, etc. But now, three years later, I test once, if at all. I assume I know better my body. How many times do you test and is there a reason to still test often?

I'm testing 4x a day. I'm looking for trends so I can call the endo to reduce my meds.
Without the "proof" he waits for my Ha1c to make changes.

I'm at 3-4 times per day as well. Always fasting in the morning and then off an on during the day after certain foods or exercise to see how things are affecting me.

If I understand correctly, I think my doctor told me to test only pre-meal, so I only go twice, prebreakfast and predinner. For me, that's plenty of times to be deliberately poking myself, thank you very much.

I test rarely unless I feel a low coming on. I usually test more when I have to see my diabetic nurse so I can say I have been testing lol...

Before I got the Dexcom CGM, I tested at least 7 times a day. Wake and pre and post meals. Now with the CGM more like 3 or 4 times a day. Wake and pre-meal. For me testing and accurate and complete food logging made all the difference. It is a lot of work, however.

This is me...until I run out of strips.
The Dr. only said once a day, and gave me enough strips for that, but I don't know when that once should be, so.....

    Thanks, Ken.
I need to ask my dr. to prescribe me more than for once daily... I use them frequently, as I am trying to figure out what affects me most.

My ins. will only cover 2 strips a day. So 200 strips for $50.
    Walmart strips are $36 for 200 and I don't need a script.

I totally posted this on the wrong thread, lol.

BTW, I usually just test my fasting blood sugar unless I'm feeling bad then I will check to see if I am low or high.

I test my blood sugar 6-8 times per day as follows...

Morning fasting within 15 minutes of waking up--if I wait more than that, my blood sugar will start rising (up to 15-30 mg/dL higher two hours later).

Before & 2-hours after meals (breakfast, lunch & dinner).

    Before bed.

Until recently, I only tested 6 times per day since I only had a lunch or dinner (not both) but now I'm trying to have all three of those meals but keeping my total daily calories the same by having smaller lunch & dinner meals so that I might be able to lower my fast-acting insulin (Humalog) dosage & maybe in the near future, be able to eliminate my need for insulin.
