I'm earnestly working on keeping a positive mindset and taking steps in the right direction for health and wellness. Trying to keep it simple by focusing on one step at a time one day at a time. I stumble here and there, but moving in the right direction overall and it feels good :)

I too am sticking to the simple and straightforward this month; simply trying to get back to being comfortable with smaller portions and better choices and moving more.

I was reading through some posts from other women our age here and there on the forums, and a couple really hit home and were helpful in reminding me why I continue with MFP, so I thought i'd share em here...

:) ..I was ready to accept myself, too, and eat whatever I wanted. In fact, I did that for 6 months. I kept exercising, but still picked up 8 pounds. At my 6 month check up, my doc was not happy and wanted to increase my blood pressure meds! Even my perfect cholesterol numbers had risen slightly.

So I get it: if I don't want a bunch of health issues in the next couple of years, I will Never be able to eat whatever I want. I will Always have to log/track my food. I will Always need to exercise, And that's okay with me; it's a small price to pay for good health and mobility in the years to come.

:) I have about a 100 lbs to lose and this time I know I'll do it no matter how long it takes. I think that's the difference when losing as we get older, because its not to get thinner for the next dance or the next date, it's to make the rest of our lives healthy and enjoyable.

 These are must reads for new people and those of us who have been here awhile who need to refresh our weight loss strategies. Patience, and understanding about how weight loss works, makes for a happier and more productive experience. I find I have to go back again and again to these great threads whenever I get frustrated and unmotivated.

No Carole.. the 100 lbs was correct..... as I said, those posts are ones I came across from other women on the forums.. that particular woman has 100 lbs to lose. Their reasons for wanting to lose the weight in their posts simply struck home with me hence why I shared them

Gail!!! :) that's fantastic in 3 months - cause remember the A1C test shows your AVERAGE over the whole 3 months.. which means you were CONSISTENTLY around 7.3 the past 3 months... not just on the day you had your test... which is a fabulous improvement!! Your down almost a full point girl... that's so well done!! Super proud of you ... your body is responding to the changes and loving it!!! big hugs and huge congrats!! :)

Today was my last weigh in date for this month - I didn't lose any weight in fact I gained about a 1/2 pound. I'm not sure why (other than the obvious; I consumed more calories than I needed and/or burned off). Actually.. that's exactly why...... well that was simple. so looks like I will have to start adjusting my calorie intake through October to find the correct amount I need now to start actually losing. Little frustrating this month, and with what seems to be having to start from scratch again finding that right number I admit, but not going to stop me from getting the loss going again. :)

That's not bad, Snoozie, it is probably just some extra fluid hiding out. You look as you have really done well swapping out fat with toned muscle... I am hopping back and forth between losing a lb and not...trying to wait until I see it for a few days though...

Big Congrats to you Gail with your blood sugar count!!!!! It's not easy to go down a whole point like that!!!

Snooozie, I hear you about the frustration. It seems like it was easier in the old days , in the short term anyway, to just do starvation diets. Healthy dieting , while a zillion times better in every way for long term weight loss, is so tricky. Finding just that right number , logging, and having to stay so consistent is a challenge for sure. I know you can do this, though, and that you will find that correct balance that works for you - hang in there!

Mid month I gained even more weight - was up an additional 4 pounds, highest I'd been for the last two years, regaining b15 pounds out of the 40 I had lost, so I totally freaked out. But I think that's what it took- I got totally fed up- enough is enough-, time to get SERIOUS again and take the proverbial bull by the horns, which I have. While I may still regress once in awhile, overall I am sticking to my goals and happy to say it is paying off. I lost the most recent 4 pound gain and am determined to lose the other 11 to get back to where I was and then continue to lose 5-10 more!!!!

Any ideas for an October thread ? Maybe I'll post one to get started and you all can add your ideas on it ....
