I've been using whey protein for a while now but I've just discovered casein protein lol

So, what are the benefits of one vs the other, which do you prefer and why?

When I used to lift, we used them in combination to maintain amino availability for recovery:
    • Whey Isolate is super quick to enter & leave the blood stream
    • Whey Concentrate will come on a bit later with slightly better "hang-time"
    • Casein comes up slowly and "hangs" longer (pre-sleep period, wake and feed, etc)

Kinda like this (the "levels" are NOT like this; IIRC, it took more casein to get to similar serum availability - prolly related to total area under the curve for its 'hang time'?) :

They're both delicious and I use them differently. Whey Protein is readily used by the body so I tend to use it pro workout with some carbs to replenish energy stores..

Casein I use at night. Quick tip with casein mix it up with a bit of yogurt and leave it in the freezer for a couple of hours. It becomes a delicious mixture almost like a pudding. You can also mix it up with unflavoured gelatine to make it into a protein jello! Be creative with it :)

It's cheaper to buy the actual casein but if you don't take it every night you can also buy quark, cottage cheese or similar as they're also rich in casein protein. Even milk!
