Changing your diet

Changing my diet has been key in my weight loss but probably one of the hardest things to do. I started by adding healthy things instead of the idea of removing unhealthy things and eventually there was no room for junk. There are a ton of "superfoods" that I have become hooked on and thought it would be a good place to start discussion while I find some determined people to join the group. My absolute favorite is avocado! It's higher in calories so you have to watch portion sizes but it's a healthy fat that your body needs and I put it on every thing. My other favorite is spinach and blueberries, and yes, I eat them together...sort of. I honestly wasn't a big fan of eating spinach everyday (flashbacks of Pop-eye I think) so I blend it, along with blueberries and my shakeology into a cup of water or almond milk for breakfast. These additions have eliminated breakfast pastries, sugary cereals, ketchup, and creamy salad dressings from my diet. Some other "super foods" are apples, asperagus, berries, fish, kale, eggs, kiwi, whole grains, and quoina. What are some ways you can or have already made the switch?

Todays superfoods included sweet potatoes, zucchini, berries, spinach, and almonds. I'm addicted to blue diamond flavored almonds. They have dark chocolate, blueberry, and raspberry. There's a bunch more too, I just haven't tried them yet. These are pretty much a daily must for me :)

What kind of major changes are you making to your diet?

I haven't eaten pasta in a LONG time... over a month :) I use Zucchini in replacement. I eat more yogurt (has tons of protein), I don't have cakes or cookies (although lately I have been searching for certain recipes that are healthier choices). I eat canned fish for additional protein, the sodium levels are high, but for the most part, that's where I get most of my sodium, so I aint too worried.

Until just a few days ago, my snacks didn't involve any store related things, but I have gotten hooked on Wheat Thins. I proportion them though... but yeah... they aren't too great for you.

    Oh yeah... and oatmeal...

It sounds like you've added some goodies. What are your thoughts on spaghetti squash as a pasta replacement? I've tried it a few times but it takes so long to prepare.

For me it's been little changes. For example measuring my cereal out as opposed to just pouring it in a bowl, counting out the recommended serving of something, tracking everything I eat, etc. I do try to make sure I eat lean proteins and plenty of fruits and vegetables.

I can't put anything on a don't eat this list (unless you count meatloaf which I hate). I'd fail if there was a food I wasn't allowed to eat. I still eat ice cream, chocolate, cake, cookies, candy and all those other bad for you things. I just try to limit it to a serving and limit how frequently these find their way into my diet. I also make sure to fit them in my calories for the day, so if I know I want ice cream I limit my other snacks and meals to save the calories. Nothing should be off limits if you keep withing moderation. I have to stay realistic so I keep up with the changes. This is changing my life for good, not changing my life until I lose what I want to lose. If I do that I'll just end up having to lose the same 60 pounds over and over.

I LOVE IT! I like squash better than pasta :) One thing you can try is making a bunch up and freezing them. Or making up a bunch of spaghetti (the actual meal) and freezing that.
