I have had no free sugars since 1991 - i.e. no sugar, dextrose, molasses, honey etc, but also no fruit sugars except lemon. I also avoid the sweeter vegetables, parsnips, sweet corn or sweet potato, and no slow cooked caramelised onions or peppers etc. This was to get away from an arthritic complaint that debilitated me for 7 years in my 30's. Unless I make a mistake I have no pain or stiffness at all, I feel great and have a steady, reasonable, weight. I enjoy my food, but my taste buds have completely changed. Sweet things no longer seem like food to me! I have just discovered myfitnesspal and am excited about planning and measuring my own recipes, and ensuring my diet stays balanced. I wonder how many people would be helped by sharing my approach?
