Hunting

Does anyone elses hiking miles include hunting this time of year. I went squirrel hunting the other day and should put on lots more miles before winter hits. :)

Not this time of year, but in Dec., I'll usually log 7-10 miles hunting deer. I can't stand sitting still anyway, and I normally hunt in a very large state forest open for public hunting. What usually happens is dozens / hundreds of hunters go in to hunt and they all sit somewhere. The deer also sit somewhere (but not in the same place). Then nobody gets a deer. The alternative is to hike around and hope to wake one up and shoot it. Usually they hear me coming and run away long before I get a chance to realize it is there and shoot it (but then another hunter will shoot it as it runs away, which doesn't help me). But occasionally there will be a deer close enough to shoot. It's really a question of sitting and never seeing a deer at all or walking around, inadvertently helping other hunters, but also having an occasional chance of getting a deer. My odds are better while hiking and it is more comfortable than sitting.

I would love to but time constraints always get in the way. I plan to go deer hunting every year and I haven't hunted since I went to Missouri like 8 years ago.
