I recently started the ketogenic diet. I am type one diabetic and on an insulin pump. I have gotten my daily insulin intake down from 74-96 units a day to a stabilized 36. This is insane! I have also lost 10 pounds so far. Every morning I wake up feeling lighter. This is literally saving my life and my money. I can't believe that this way of life isn't taught to diabetics. Its easy especially when you are already tracking your carbs and the food is delicious. My husband is just amazed and we are so thankful for keto.

Find DittoDan, an active poster who has blogged quite a bit of his journey. Great info and encouragement.

That's fantastic news. Let us know how you get on. I would love to have more info for my t1 friend. She's as thin as a rail, but I've often wondered if keto could help her manage her condition. What do think?0

You might also check in with @Sunny_Bunny_ because her type 1 daughter has developed diabetic ketoacidosis at some point... I know that Keto can trigger it if not monitored closely with Type 1, so just make sure you stay on top of your numbers and keep your doctor involved.0

I'm not T1, but T2. Was morbidly obese. After one month-ish, I was off all meds except Metformin. Granted, my BG level was a little elevated, but nothing like it used to be. It has taken a year of weight loss, Keto and water fasting, and my BG's are approaching normal levels... I suspect after I lose the rest of my weight, and staying on the Keto diet, I would have normal BG's and H1AC's.

Doesn't that just say it all about the sad (no pun intended) state our country is in that big medicine, big pharma, research for both, and even the Government are more concerned about how much $$ they can get out of us rather than being truly concerned with the actual state of our health? It frankly disgusts me and I have largely lost respect for the medical field because of it. Whatever happened to "first do no harm?!"

I'm type 1. I am new to keto and so far not very good at it. I am hardly ever in ketosis due to eating to many carbs. I expect it gets easier the longer I stay with it. Like emiand2009 said my insulin requirements are much less when I eat less carbs and my blood sugars are much more stable. Great for diabetics.0
