When new to Keto, do you initially gain or lose?

Hi Everyone - I am new to Keto, and REALLY excited about changing my eating style (and bad habits!) - but I am not gonna lie, I am a bit *scared* about going from a low fat diet (pounded into my head for years!) and switching up to a High Fat one. But after all the research and reading (and seeing amazing success stories) I am ready to JUST DO IT!
My question is, Do you initially gain some weight first when starting Keto - or does your body *get it* right away because of the very low carbs? I just want to be prepared to not have a $&it Fit if I get on the scale in a few days and see the number go up and not down <g>
Thanks in advance for any info - and if anyone would like to add me, I would love some motivated friends!!! ~Kathy

I dropped about 10 lbs the first week and haven't stopped losing! Fats are good for you...just keep repeating it to yourself0

Lose. normally it's water weight during induction due to the decrease of Carbs.
1gram of Carbs hold 4 grams of water weight.
Bf% should start to go down once fats become primary source of energy.0 -
I started 29th Mach this year and lost slower than most but did loose rather than gain in the begining.
I lost about 3lb the first week I think which I was very happy with. I weigh myself constantly- don't know why but the odd time I would gain a pound or two from one day to the next but then it would go again.
Also I noticed that one week I would feel that I had dropped inches while still only droppping a pound or two. So one eek I'd loose 2lb and the next week I'd loose 2lb plus some inches say on my upper body.
I didn't measure with a tape but certainly felt it in my clothes.
It is a fantastic way to live. I did feel hungry and strugle a bit from time to time but stuck with it.0 -
Below is what I did and seems typical of most.
Day 1-3) No change as you are getting into keto and getting used to it, try also count calories to get used to portion sizes. Keto flu!
Day 4-7) Drop 1-2lb a day, water weight just coming away. Need to Pee all the time, even when you haven't drunk much lol! Remember to keep drinking lots of water to help everything along. Also look into supplemnts for magensium, sodium, potassium
Day 7-10) Slows a little to about 0.5lb a day, start getting big energy boosts and wanting to work out more. Feel full more often so calories seem to cut back by themselves, try not to undereat too bad and count for this reason
Day 10 forwards) Calms to about 1-2lb a week. I start to get bad insomnia where I have too much mental energy to sleep.
I have only ever managed about 2weeks non stop before having a carb day or weekend, and then having to start again.
Post cheat/refeed/
Day 1) regain about 3lbs water weight, hungry all time as try to readjust back
Day 2) drop 2lbs Keto flu hurts but kills hunger so start getting back in good habits
Day 3) Keto flu part 2, drop 2lbs
Day 4) Smaller size, but lbs are same.
Day 5) back to the 1-2lbs a week.0 -
I didn't gain, just lost weight really fast. After awhile it plateaued but I broke it increasing my macros Don't be scared of fat!
