Bruised sternum frustrations

Hello everyone - I haven't been on here for a while as I haven't been able to swim for a fortnight after badly bruising my sternum. Worse of all was that I had the accident when getting into the swimming pool - it was my own fault for not using the pool ladder properly, slipping, banging onto the handrail with my full weight on my sternum, then ending up in the water. I am lucky I didn't bang my head on the way down - could have been much more serious!
Anyway, two weeks on and I am still in a lot of pain - I have heard (confirmed by friends and the doctor) that this pain can last for weeks.... aarrggghhhh!!! Its getting really frustrating now but luckily swimming is the one exercise I will be allowed to do once the pain starts to subside. I will have to take it easy though once back.
Needless to say no exercise and pain means feeling sorry for myself and eating a lot more than usual. My thinking is that if I face up to that on here I can stop the self pity and stop with the sweets!!
Enough of me - carry on swimming everyone and remember, pools can be dangerous places!!

Ouch!! That's a bummer. I hope you get better soon. I twisted my ankle putting my gym bag in the car last week in preparation for swimming and last year I broke my finger when I tripped and fell on my way out of the YMCA after swimming! For some of us, it only takes thinking about a pool!
So stop it with the sweets, already! (says the woman who just ate the second half of the cookie that she was going to save until tomorrow)0 -
Ouch indeed. Wishing you a speedy recovery....0

I hope it gets better soon too! It's really, really annoying...0

Ow ow ow! Will be anxiously awaiting your return to the water--as I imagine you are!0

That sounds so painful! I'm sorry to hear it. Toss the sweets!!! Without my pool for two weeks, I somehow convinced myself that I deserved a "break" (from WHAT exactly???) Now I've "got my chub on" as my sister says. Time to get back to work.
Take it slowly. Wait until you get the OK to swim. You'll be back on your game soon, it just feels like forever right now.0 -
Thanks everyone - it is painful but today seems to have improved a bit. Still haven't braved the pool - will probably wait until the three week mark (this Wednesday coming) before going back for a light swim.0
