I was eating at someones house and did not want make a big thing about my eating by looking up carbs or weighing. I skipped potatoes and carrots, and took a generous helping of plain roast turkey - about a fist size (which I think would be 5oz). I now find that's 10 carbs- I thought turkey would be safe and I'm now over my limit.

How is turkey 10 carbs? Think about this a little.

Plain roast turkey is zero carbs. MFP has a lot of bad data. Be careful.

There's a trace amount in the skin, but you'd need to eat like 60 ounces of turkey to get 1 gram from it. The only way it has appreciable carbs is if you're adding something with carbs to it.

Yeah that's not right. Don't worry there are not ten carbs in 5 oz of plain roast turkey.

Whenever you see something that doesn't make sense (a plain meat with carbs doesn't make a whole lot of sense aside from liver and some seafood), check the nutrient database.

    http://ndb.nal.usda.gov/

It will give you a better idea of what the value is likely to be. I've seen some crazy things on MFP.

We usually don't use the MFP food database any more.
I spend less time making a new food item.
I use an old Diabetes meal planner as my reference book.
I scan in new items if it has a bar code & check the label.
We measure all my food. I have a good reason for being soo anal.
