I'm really glad to find this little support group that is just starting up. I've tried MFP and Weight Watchers several times and failed... Hopefully finding some friends along this journey will help me stick to it and look forward to getting to know everyone. I think we are all at an age where we have a lot of life stressors - aging parents, problems with adult kids, hormone changes, physical ailments beginning to appear, etc. I'm 56. I have managed to gain 50 pounds over the last 6 years since I moved to a new place- from 120 at age 48, up to a record 178 a couple of months ago. I'm out of control and it is scary. My problem is portion control and I am really starting to crave sweets since I have gained this weight.
I stand up all day at work and a couple of years ago I broke a little bone in my foot doing absolutely nothing....I now have a foot that hurts all day. I know it's not a big deal compared to what lots of others are going through, (diabetes, etc...) but I know it is the just extra weight that caused it to happen.
I have not started exercising yet. I live in the country so there are no gyms here, but honestly, I wouldn't join one even if it was an option. They are very intimidating to me. I work out in the yard a lot for my exercise right now. I also joined a Meetup ladies walking group in the city where I work, but I never get to seem to go due to my work schedule....
I went to my doctor and she put me on a plan that is a little different from the standard MFP plan. It's basically the same except she wants me to do very low sugar - only 15 grams per day, and limited whole grain carbs - no more that 120 per day, and I am allowed more healthy fats (I can eat until I am full but I have to use common sense). I've been on it for 3 weeks, and so far, so good. I just want the scale to be headed in the right direction, no matter how slowly.
