As we head into Fall, I want to make one of my favorite soups: 1 can of Campbell's tomato soup, 1 can of clams (mostly for the juice) and 1 serving of frozen mariscos (fish) and I add whatever vegetables I have on hand.

The problem is, I learned that it is the tomatoes that make my ankle swell. I have tried just using fish stock and it is too watery.

Any ideas how I can improve this recipe ? Is it the acidity that makes my ankles swell? Is there a way to cut back the acidity? Should I purée a vegetable into the stock?

Thanks.

Well, how are you with orange juice or other acidic foods?

Orange juice used to bother my stomach. I have GERD. Once I changed my diet, GERD has not bothered me.

You might be on to something. Mexicans make a sopa de camarones (shrimp soup) with orange juice.

    I'll try it.

How much sodium is in a can of Campbell's tomato soup. If it's a lot can you make your own?

Oh, but tomatoes do increase uric acid. I am borderline on the gout scale. Looks like I will have to find other fish soup recipes.
