How about, make it through the month without eating the Halloween candy and pumpkin pie! That will be my challenge!0

Lol! Don't I know it! I would always be there to grab up all the half priced candy I could!
Obviously, I'm not afraid of that this time, but I am worried I may think that just one piece is no big deal and then trigger a full on binge! I honestly think I am strong enough emotionally now, to fight it off, but it's still a real concern.0 -

I know I'm not strong enough yet. I am going to be scrambling for a night out and hopefully a date or two Halloween weekend because I already hate weekends, and a holiday weekend in the house is guaranteed to end with me passed out, a bottle of wine or liquor in one hand, the last half-eaten piece of chocolate in the other.0 -
Omega-3 or Oily October, perhaps?0

Do you do MCT oil?
Oil in October would be a learning thing for me
I may do some Google and Amazon0 -
I just started low carb (having dabbled a bit here and there over the past year or so with low carb/Primal). In fact, I'm having heavy cream in my coffee (usually drink it black with stevia). I'm up for any challenge, though for me I'm just hoping to be able to stick with it for all of October and see how I feel.
I like the MCT oil thing...I have a bottle and rarely use it. I use coconut oil more often.0 -

I like that too. I plan on putting off buying candy until the eleventh hour to avoid eating it. Maybe I'll be one of *those* people who gives out play-do or toothbrushes. LOL
I need to find a crustless, sugar free, pumkin pie recipe for me. Pumpkin fat bomb maybe. Our Thanksgiving is in a couple of weeks so I need to plan ahead.0 -

I am one of the people that doesn't hand out candy - but never got kids trick or treating at my last residence (plus we kept the lights out since we were empty-handed).
I was just browsing the Wheat Belly Blog earlier and found this recipe for pumpkin pie: http://www.wheatbellyblog.com/recipes/wheat-belly-holiday-recipes-2/0 -
Every year we go to "Mickey's Not So Scary" at Disney. It's the Magic Kingdom with trick-or-treating around the parks. I'll get a bag of candy, sometimes more, through the night. It was tempted the first time, but I haven't wanted any the last time. I just give the candy to the kiddo.0

Get outside and walk in the sun, enjoy the cooler weather and fall foliage!0

We never get trick or treaters. Our driveway is long and scary. We usually just stay home, make Halloween treats, and watch old monster movies (circa 1940-1960). This year (like last year) there will be low-carb treats for me.
This isn't to say that the Carb-a-Lots, my ILs, won't try to candy the kids up. But I can tell you this year that the candy will be returned right back to them if they try to sneak it to the kids. My patience with the nonsense has been depleted.
Maybe the challenge could be facing/tackling fears, in honor of the scary holiday? Or a points based challenge like: you get x points for hitting your water goal, exercise goal, and carb goal every day? Weekly winner gets bragging rights? Doesn't have anything to do with the letter O or Halloween, but an idea for this month. Or another. Or never.
Just throwing things out there to take or leave.0 -

I like both of those ideas. The points could be fun, but I would hate to see anyone stop participating if they felt they were falling behind.. Though I have to admit the competition aspect of that does sound fun to me.
Maybe there could be a competitive group and a participant group? Idk...0 -
I like the idea of facing my fears, but I'm not sure how many food related fears I have left. Hhmmmm, this warrants more thought, I can suddenly think of some.0

There are so many keto pumpkin pie/mousse/latte etc recipes out there... and I probably made most of them, I love pumpkin, and cinnamon, and fall. Looking forward to the challenge.0

I think I'm in the stage of amping up things - still in line with the fear. Since I started doing these other smoothies, I'm seriously debating dropping a lot of my dairy, since that's one of the things that has terrified me from the beginning. I've started brewing my own Kombucha, but it will be easily a week before I know that that's going... I'm focusing on my midday fasting (keeps my no-gallbladder/too much bile/bowel reaction from triggering unless I press beyond 8-10 hours)...
What about body recomping as a focus sometime soon - maybe January to tie into the old "new diet resolution stuff"? I've found that my scale is playing yo-yos with me, but I fit back into my "skinny jeans" without losing so much as an ounce, so my body is doing weird things too?
Because I think as we approach the holidays, our focuses could me more on reasonable holiday indulgences, or low-carb old treats experimenting and such.
I have zero temptation from Halloween candy, and we don't get trick or treaters in our apartment complex anyway, but I'm trying to fit all manner of low carb pumpkin things in right now...so I don't know about the "no pumpkin pie" bit... Facing fears? Dunno. I think the vagueness of our challenges lately has correlated directly to my lack of interest in them. I know that's probably just me, but I can't do this "your version of the challenge" stuff. I need a direct challenge, or I'm doing my own stuff...
But at the same token, too tough or hard core of challenges set me up for failure.
So I've totally rambled with nothing to show for it... Just some thoughts...Could do a basics crash course again, too. Lots of newbies and lots of us set up for carb creep in the next few months.0 -
How about Cold Sober October. -Something that absolutely has got to stop this month.
I need to absolutely stop procrastinating w/ exercise and I sometimes eat or drink something that I know throws me out of keto and hijacks my progress for the week.
No other way but to stop playing at this and go cold sober - For me, I'm starting the YMCA again -at least 3x a week, and no alcohol and no apples for October.0 -
I'm up for anything that's been suggested. If it's Sober October, I have to have one weekend off (I've already planned for drinking in STL when I visit my friends the weekend of the 17-18th).
Last year, it was colder than usual on Halloween, so not as many kids came by. Two older boys hit the jackpot when they came by at the end of the TorT time and got about $20 worth of leftover candy from my house...0 -
Prepping for the Holidays, basics crash course? Could follow the points thing, or collect pumpkins. Competing with yourself. Trying to get the max daily score, or more than you did previously. Water, electrolytes, under carb goal, logging daily, close to cal goal, exercise goal, resisting a temptation. Setting up a habit pattern to predispose you to sail through the holidays? Sharing low-carb legal versions of our trouble holiday foods, and encouragement. With an optional add on of working on a fear or scary pattern that often derails you or inhibits your progress?

I like the facing your fears suggestion.0
-
For example
10/1:
Water:
Calorie goal within 100:
At or under carbs:
Exercise as planned:
Hit electrolytes:
Logged food:
6/6
Earned 6 pumpkins.
Bonus: resisted temptation or worked on fear: +1
Daily Pumpkins collected: 7
You could choose all of those. Or if you don't want to log you can just log (or keep track of) carbs only, you can do that.
Whutcha think?
Ok the pumpkin thing is a little cheesy, we could just to points if that is too hokey for people.0 -

Not too hokey for me!0 -
Naw, we're a bunch of cheeseballs, anyway, aren't we? I have found some of the coolest people hanging out in this corner of the world (the MFP, LC, AWESOMENESS corner, if you're curious.)...0
