Hello!

I have lost 108 pounds on CICO since August 2014 and was doing quite well. However, my weight loss has slowed down to a crawl and I think I need a change. I have done a lower carb type of diet in the past (South Beach) and did well on that. I do know that SBD is not strictly low carb, but more of a good carb diet, though. I am leaving on a 3 week cruise/land vacation in about 10 days and I want to go strictly low carb for at least a month when I return to get back on track and also see how it works for me. I do plan to keep simple carbs out of my diet as much as possible while traveling, although I know that I will not have a lot of control over what is in the foods. So, that said, I am hoping to learn as much as I can about low carb choices now, before I leave so I can hit the ground running upon my return. I plan to continue to log and keep my food diary as it is now habit and it keep me on track to see what I have eaten.

    I would research like crazy.

From my limited observation a casual approach to Low-Carb High Fat does not work well. My phrase is "dancing around the edges of low-carb doesn't work". Folks who try it casually, hit road blocks, then quit concluding that LCHF "doesn't work" when in reality they never really tried it.

There are MANY benefits besides weight loss.

Do some reading up now and I bet you will find some good low carb items on the ship too. I understand you do not want to limit yourself when the food is unlimited. Unlike with carbs it is hard for me to overeat when 80% of my calories is coming from fats. Now drinking straight Heavy Whipping Cream (HWC at 36% butter fat in the states) is natural for me. It tastes like boiled custard to me but does have more calories than boiled custard.

Getting into high fat way of eating can be a mental hang up to make LCHF work as well as possible and is NOT a requirement for many.

Knowing me I would live on ham and fried eggs on a cruise. :)

    Have a great cruise.

I'm humbled and honored. Especially since I didn't even post in this thread.

@nicintime always gives good advice, and we both have underwater avatars. :)

It was @nicintime that I was in agreement with this time.
One of y'all needs a new avatar! ;)

To make it simple just avoid anything bread, rice, pasta, or sweet. Eat meats, veggies, eggs and as much food still in its natural state.... Avoid processed foods as much as possible. Drink tons of water and allow yourself to splurge at least once!
