We got the cat show set up yesterday but it took a little longer than usual. Our yard sale chair dropped off 5 boxes of cat related stuff she'd pulled from the yard sale donations so we had to price those and find places for them amongst everything else. Here's hoping they get a HUGE crowd and I don't have to pack everything I unpacked. LOL! Between the Aleve and mild compression socks and my Spira shoes I wasn't in too much pain last night.

Helene - here's hoping your DH continues to get good news and you get off to FL!

Jean - glad you got some pain relief.

I haven't checked in recently either. I'm having a problem either with my tablet or this site in getting your more recent posts to show up, so even though I check in to see what y'all are posting, sometimes I don't see new ones until several days later. Not sure where the problem lies.

I haven't felt well for the past three days. I can't tell if it's a cold, allergies, or sinus infection. It doesn't seem to fit the symptoms completely for any of those three, but I have some symptoms of all three. The worst part has been a monster headache for the better part of three days. It's a bit better today, but my throat is very scratchy and I'm coughing more than usual. This is not a good time to be sick as I haven't even started my Christmas shopping, decorating, or baking yet.

Our nephew, wife and their baby are coming next Thursday for a couple of nights. Her cousin is graduating with her Master's degree in physical therapy from the school where I earned my master's degree and they are coming for her graduation ceremony. So I also need to clean house, in addition to the above To-Do List.

Helene, I'm glad your dental implant isn't causing you too much discomfort. When I had mine done I didn't have much pain either. The worst part for me was just waiting for it to heal so I could get the crowns installed. I was impatient to have "real" teeth again and get rid of the flipper plate that I used temporarily. How long will you need to wait for that phase?

Jean, I'm glad you got the cortisone shot for your arm and shoulder. You may recall that I was having issues with mine last year, too and the shots along with PT are what finally resolved the issue for me. I hope you get similar relief soon.

Maryanne, your turkey corn soup sounded good to me. This is the time of year that I start to really enjoy soup as a meal. It doesn't typically appeal to me unless it's really cold outside, or I'm sick. Right now, it's moderately cold and I am sick, so could you send me a bowl or two of that soup?

Pam--I am sorry that you are not feeling well. This time of the year is not a good time (if any time is) to become ill when there are so many things to do. If I could send you some soup, I would. There is nothing like hot soup to make you feel better.

Maryanne--I hope the cat show goes well and that you don't have to repack too many items. Glad the Aleve, etc. have helped reduce the pain of the experience.

I've more or less have just decided not to do anything with food changes, etc. until after Christmas. I did decide to reduce the amount of caffeine I'm drinking so from dinner on, I'll be drinking decaf. I have a horrible habit of drinking coffee in the evening.

Pam..Having the implant in is a big relief. The tooth was pretty far back so nobody could see it. But I felt I had I had a huge space in my mouth. even though I don't have the crown yet, I'm much less conscious of the space. Perhaps it's because the base of the gum is covered up. I didn't have anything temporary to fill the space but I can see front teeth would be another matter. And much more traumatic. If I wasn't going away, I could have the crown done sooner. I don't remember what the minimum wait time would have been since I knew I couldn't get it done sooner unless I wanted to give up FL. I'll have it done in June. I already have the appointment set up.

Jean...I'm glad the shot helped. I hope you're able to heal while the pain is controlled. Will you do PT like Pam did?

Maryanne...I hope you don't have much to pack up at the end.

Helene--I hope you have great success with the implant. I won't be doing PT.

This Christmas commercial has nothing to do with selling a product but the message it sells is very powerful. The ending is absolutely amazing.

Pam - too bad I can't send you some soup. I talked to one of our volunteers who's been very sick - sounds just like what DH had. Whatever it is, is nasty. Sore throat, cough, congestion - all many times worse than a typical cold and quite lingering.

I worked today and will the rest of the week. Next week I only have one day scheduled but that can change at any time. I had a Lean Cuisine Panini for dinner and some veggies. I'm about to chow down on an NS dessert. I think I'm leaning more and more toward going a la carte.

I finally canceled my auto delivery plan the other day. I asked about the plan Maryanne is on and I may sign up for that when I get to FL. It's part of the Success program and delivery is free for a la cart with a plan. I'm working on using up remaining NS. I had a box arrive during the middle of DH's hospitalization and I just got around to opening it. I'm planning to do a combo on that NS, Lean Cuisine and my own cooking. My goal for the holidays is to get back on track and to maintain where I am for now. If I lose, great. But I'd be happy not gaining over the holidays.

Today is the first day in the past week that I've felt pretty good. Whatever it was that I had seems to have finally left me and I'm really glad it did. I have a lot to do,this week, so there is no time to be sick!

Last night some friends had invited us to attend a performance of Handel's "Messiah" in the Bass Performance Hall in downtown Fort Worth. It was performed by the Fort Worth Symphony Or Hester's and the Southwestern Theological Seminary Chorale. The Bass is a world class performance hall, so it was a very nice venue for the performance. Our friends had purchased the box seats in a fundraiser at their church and invited us to join them. We had dinner before the performance in a very nice restaurant downtown then walked a few blocks to the hall. We stopped for a few minutes to see the city's Christmas tree all lit up and just enjoyed the downtown atmosphere. Luckily it was a nice evening and not too chilly to enjoy the walk. The performance was excellent so all in all, it was a very enjoyable evening.

Today I was busy doing laundry and getting a start on some of my holiday baking. I feel like I have fallen behind this year due to feeling so rotten for the last few days. I haven't even begun my shopping yet either. We have guests arriving Thursday night, so tomorrow I need to clean house and figure out what I'm going to feed them and probably go grocery shopping. I won't be able to do much Thursday because it's my library day, so I need to get it done tomorrow. Hopefully DH will help with some of the cleaning. I can usually count on him to vacuum for me and he doesn't mind grocery shopping, as long as I give him a detailed list.

Jean - how are the kids cooperating this close to Christmas?

Helene - you also get 20% off in addition to free shipping with that program. Worth it IF you order enough.

Pam - that sounds like a wonderful evening!

Tuffy is at the vet for a dental. I miss him! I took Lola along yesterday for a Convenia (antibiotic) shot but she came right home. She seems to have forgiven me. The siding guys just arrived. Going to be a noisy day around here and me with at least 2 conference calls.

I couldn't post yesterday. I'd start one and then lose it. Hope I have better luck today. Pam, I'm glad you feel better. It's not great to be sick this time of year but at least you got rid of it before the actual holiday. Try to get enough rest so you don't relapse. Maryanne..I'll look into that plan once I get to FL. I still have one NS card left from my Costco purchase. Jean..I hope you're doing okay as well. I miss being able to post as often as I did on NS but this site gives me a lot of pop ups. My computer needs a serious cleaning. I have a place in SC that did work on my computer tower last year. I thought I'd be lucky if they retrieved my data, but they got it running again as well.

I picked up Tuffy this morning. He was GLAD to get out of the vet and back home. Talking and just wanting all kinds of attention.

Then I did 2/3 of the grocery shopping. Still have one store to hit tomorrow. Have a conference call at 3.

I have nothing special I have to do today. Maybe I'll do an hour or so of decluttering and get the stuff out of the house. I always feel better when the stuff actually goes out the door. Having it in a bag or box isn't enough for me. I still feel like I own it if it's in the house. If it stays here too long, I may have second thoughts and take something back out. I've done that with clothes before.

I'm sorry I've neglected posting. I have worked every day and was just wiped out in the evening. The past two days were an easy assignment so I'm rested. The students are very well-behaved over all despite the holiday season. Because we started school so early, we will be ending the first semester at the Christmas break. As a result, the students are getting work in and preparing for semester exams to take place just before the break on the 21st and 22nd.

Maryanne--I am glad that Tuffy is home. Midnight is never overjoyed about staying at the vet. Do you put your fur babies in holiday attire? Midnight would sink his teeth in me if I tried that. Good job on the grocery shopping.

Helene--I agree that it feels like a sense of accomplishment when the stuff leaves the house. Having it boxed up is a step but it isn't completed. I haven't had any popups for a very long time on the site. I do get interesting ads displayed but that is a result of an ad tracker.

Pam--The performance sounds wonderful. As hectic as it is, I'm sure that you will get things ready for your holiday guests.

The thought of trying to put Tuffy in holiday attire has me laughing out loud! He was apparently actually very good at the vet once he calmed down - talking and charming them. They gave him a very large cage so he was quite comfortable. They said he wanted OUT of the cage although they couldn't figure out where he wanted to go. DH said "he just wanted OUT as step one and he figured he'd figure out step two later". Hee hee....

Actually I've only ever had one cat that was what I call "the kind kids could put doll clothes on". That was our late Angel. She actually wore a "sweater" (actually made of surgical gauze) for years after she had a feeding tube put in.

Yesterday I decided the Christmas list was getting done if it killed me. I was still doing paperwork last evening but I'm about done except for the CROM mail I picked up Thursday. My Christmas spreadsheet is pretty extensive - people to remember, people to thank, etc. I had done a lot but still needed to finish up a few things and then do MY list - Christmas catnip toys to the siblings, my cards, etc. I should have thought to take the catnip toys along at Thanksgiving but didn't cross my mind until I was headed out the door!

(note: spell check does NOT like a failure to capitalize Christmas)

Had to turn down an app on the cat we found in our neighborhood. Nice lady but not willing to consider indoor only. I have to applaud her honesty but I'm not giving her a cat.

There are lost cat signs all OVER the neighborhood. I feel so bad that I don't have those people's cat because they are obviously frantic. But it's clearly two different cats.

Today I have a hair appointment and then maybe I can work on the CROM mail I picked up Thursday.

Work is swamping me again. Funny, about 10 days ago I had NO billable work to do. A couple days later I was swamped again. There's no middle.

I got a holiday card from a friend who is retired from teaching (special ed) and winding down her cat rescue. Her card said "it's a relief to let go". Maybe I'll get there but as much as I whine about being busy I LIKE being busy. Makes me feel useful. I watch DH lie on the couch hour after hour and think "not interested, no way". Of course I could probably spend two years cleaning and decluttering with no problem at all. LOL!

I'm really enjoying the Jacquie Lawson advent calendars. This year's is even more elaborate.

Maryanne--there is no way I could get Midnight into holiday attire. It just amazes me at the pics I see of pets being adorned. They must sedate them before adorning them. This is more like my experience with my cats:

None of our cats would have let us play dress up either. Beats me how other people manage it. It was a pretty quiet day for. We went down the road to a craft show at the Tribal Council. We have a Federally recognized tribe in town and they built a beautiful new headquarters about 2 years so I was interested in seeing the inside of the building more than going to the craft show. It's really beautiful. Here's a link to their website if you want to see a rendering of the building. http://www.mashpeewampanoagtribe.com/governmentcenter I picked up a couple of small items and ran into a few friends will I was there.

Helene--Nice building and it was good that you could see it as well as pick up some craft items.

This has been a slow day basically because I just wanted to relax. I did get my few gifts done while I watched "House" streamed via Netflix. A friend called and spent two hours chatting.

I spent the day doing paperwork again and getting the laundry room ready. DH has decided we just have to have the cat that showed up here three weeks ago. We'll start him off in the laundry room. It's been 5 LONG years since we brought in a cat. No clue how our youngest two will take it. Could be interesting! This will be cat #27 in our marriage. 20 are gone; 5 still here (to be six tomorrow) and 1 lives with my best friend (the only time we tried to bring one in and it just didn't work). I had to stop and count how many litter boxes are still up. I've been gradually reducing the number since we don't have 16 cats any more!

Maryanne--27 cats! Wow! You truly are a cat lover. I love Midnight but I was warned by the vet that he was one of those cats who did not get along with other cats. When he is boarded, they often have to keep him in a kitty condo away from the other cats.

Well, new guy is in the laundry room. So far not a ton of interest from the others. He is a GOOD eater although he weighs quite a bit less than our other two boys. I think we may call him Sammy.

I was too tired to post yesterday. We were up at 5:30 to get ready for DH's 7:00 stress test. He must have been the first appointment. It took a couple of hours. We went to breakfast afterward and did a couple of short errands afterwards. I took a 2 hour nap when we got home and just relaxed for the rest of the day.

I've been feeling very stressed due to falling behind on my Christmas to do list, but made some real progress on it today so I'm feeling a little better. I still have three gifts to buy, but then I think I will be done. Tomorrow will be devoted to baking a buche de Noel cake for a party on Thursday night. I've never made one before but I've always wanted to try, so this is the time! I've made cake rolls before, but never decorated one like a Yule log. I made some meringue mushrooms yesterday to use for decorations and they turned out really cute.

I did make it to the gym yesterday and today. I'm supposed to go again tomorrow but I may have to cancel because my knee is really stiff and hurting this evening. I have no idea why since all I did at the gym this morning was walking on the treadmill at the same pace and incline that I normally use. It's always something, isn't it?

Hugs to everyone. I hope your to do lists are getting shorter, too!

My knee was fine this morning so I did go to the gym. Probably won't make it the rest of the week, so it's good that I went. Now on to the kitchen to start working on my Yule log cake!

The Yule log turned out pretty good, although it took two attempts to get it right. DH is happy since he gets to have the failed first try. It's not perfect, but I'm satisfied with it and I learned what not to do. I think I could make the next one perfect, but I'm not making another one anytime soon, lol!

Today I'll do my shift at the library, then I have the party tonight. A pretty nice day, overall.

Pam - having access to your first attempts must be a real plus for your DH!

I had my annual checkup with the glaucoma specialist this morning. WAY too early! I absolutely hate the field of vision test and I hate anyone touching my eyes. I am NOT a good eye patient. But they checked off all their boxes and I still don't need any eye drops. He couldn't resist looking at my retina repair even though I see the retina specialist next month. Said it looks good to him!

A very rainy day here. I've been trying to work but it's tough when your vision is all blurry!

I've been busy and have forgotten to check in. I need to make this a priority again.

I was happy that two of my specialist appointments were during Christmas break as I wouldn't have to miss a work day and possible loss of pay. I was just notified that one has been changed to January, the day after I have the appointment with the urologist to schedule another check up to see if the bladder cancer is returning. I don't have any reason to believe it is; it is just the normal follow up tests as bladder cancer tends to come back easily.

    mdubbs1 Posts: 6,670 Member
Jean - I got a letter from the eye clinic that they'd unilaterally rescheduled my appointment with the retina specialist. Is this a new thing?

Well, maybe a good thing we brought the new guy here. He's having food issues. I need to email the vet and ask for suggestions.
