Thought I'd share some inspiration. Today is my 1 year anniversary! 1 year ago August 1st I started the C25K program. Now I run 5 miles every other day (come hell or high water--or heat)! I lost over 60 pounds between May 2012 and December and have been keeping it off with the running! As someone a few threads ago said, just go out and do it when your voice or weather tells you not to. You'll feel so great having done it once you're done for the day and you might actually find yourself looking forward to your next day out. I wanted to stay on track and not get complacent with 2 days off in a row (as C25K is written as a 3 day per week training schedule) so I decided to do it every other day. And I did--without fail. The weather never gave me any excuses (and if it did, I would have to run inside on my treadmill which I hate). I ran my first 5K in September and I ran a 10K in March. But now my goal is to maintain a healthy habit and one that I've come to enjoy and look forward to. If I can do it, so can any of you who thought they were not cut out to run or that hated running--because that was me! I never since I was a teen playing sports could find a smooth stride and I always felt like I was forcing it and that I was clod hopping along. But I did a lot of reading on different running strides and styles and during my C25K training I experimented and found a stride and strike type that works for me and feels nice and smooth! I'm looking forward to the cooler weather again which admittedly makes it easier to run and more enjoyable. But running in 95 degrees makes me feel good as I sweat out toxins and the day's stressors all the while knowing a cool house and cool shower were soon to be my reward and it would be over. Good Luck all!

Sounds ideal - that is why I started running - no plan to actually do a 5K, but it takes me a 2 hour bike ride vs a 30 minute run. My decision to start running was mostly a timing issue. I want to make it a healthy habit three times a week. Love that 'you've been successful for so long. That is my goal and you are an inspiration. Once I get comfortable I hope to bring my chubby little dog too.

I thought week 2 looked scary too! I completed the 1st day today and it wasn't so bad. I think I'm actually starting to like this!

 Running does have a way of becoming fun. When I started, it was for fitness and now I'm running for fun. The further into the program you advance the more you'll enjoy yourself and the more stubborn you'll get about accomplishing the goal. Way to go!

It's a good thing I am stubborn as a mule

Congrats on sticking with it! I am on Week 4. Should be doing day 2 tonight. Thought I was going to do it this morning, but got lazy. So now I get to run in the heat! ;-)

Still moving - finished W3D2 after 7 days of not running. It was a beautiful crisp, clear day and it was wonderful. Unfortunately in my newfound running euphoria I looked ahead at my upcoming weeks and scared the crap out of myself. Holy Cow how am I going to do week 4 and then I looked at week 5 OMG. I stopped looking after that. Oh Boy what have I gotten myself into?

Ha! I never looked ahead, so I was a bit startled when I got to that point in W5 and heard what I had to do. The thing is: you aren't ready for it today. You need the next two weeks to get there. at that point. You will have been running for 5 weeks. You will have successfully done every crazy thing they asked of you. You will be ready then.

Your lazy inner child is scaring you! The runs ahead are easier than you think! I am almost done with week 5. Day 3 is tomorrow, but I am only a bit apprehensive. I did my 2 8 minute runs the other day and I feel like I could have kept going. I may have been dog tired by the end, but I CAN do it! I WILL find the strength somewhere! Even if the walkers are passing me up!!! ;-)

I just finished Wk4D2 yesterday and it wasn't too bad. I'll hit D3 on Saturday and then cue up for Wk5. We can do this, it's just mind over matter. I do find that the less I think about my form the better I do. If I think about it I tend to nuke it.

W3D3 done -On to Week 4 - Oh My God. I definitely need more than one day between running. Shins were screaming, but recovered quicker than previous runs.

    I just finished W1D3!
This thread is pretty inspiring, seeing someone go through all of the different days and challenges. Thanks for sharing your story!

Ok today sucked. I usually run straight out of bed in the morning with one cup of coffee for fuel. This morning chickens were supposed to arrive at the Post Office - usually between 5am - 8am. So I ate my bowl of yogurt and banana for breakfast. Then hubby gets home from the dentist and I can go. But I just ate - alright - better than a hot afternoon run, right. NO. Partway into the warm up (on my day off, but I'm the boss so those don't really exist) I get a call from a housekeeper calling in sick on her day off. Now I'm wondering if she really had the day off or if I'm nuts. You would think that would make me run faster so I could get home and check the schedules, but no. I just couldn't get my head in the game.

Couldn't do more than 1.5 minutes - jeez I have been doing three minutes no problem - not today. Then I turned around too soon and one nostril closed up due to my allergies.

We'll have to try this one again Thursday...

One bad day is NOT stopping me.
