I use spices all the time and I have for a long time. Fortunately spices and spicy food don't bother me one bit. Chili powder is pretty mild, but if you are just introducing spicy food back into your diet, you might want to increase the spiciness slowly, and add it to individual servings rather than an entire recipe in case it doesn't agree with you.

ETA - I meant to say, if you are going to add anything spicier than chili powder to add it to your diet slowly, chili powder should be fine :-)

I was told by my surgeon to eat spices and not be afraid of them. The only thing that bothers me 9 weeks post op is high acid foods. (Triggers heartburn, but even that is improving weekly.) Everything else is fine.

I had chili the other night with a lot of spice and it was okay, but I am like marta on the high acid, makes my tiny tummy hurt. I keep a journal of the things that I am eating and if there are any 'ill effects' afterwards.
