I've read doing a low carb diet gives you energy and makes you feel all around better! Is it really because of the lack of bad carbs or is it mind set, your loosing weight, excited, seeing things more positive because of the weight loss?

Weight loss helps for sure. So does exercise. Exercise was probably the biggest feel-good factor for me.

But, yeah, low carb is magic. :)

There are real physiological changes associated with carb restriction. In terms of how they make you feel, that depends on both how you implement the changes and your particular physiology.

I haven't started exercising yet so it's the lack of carbs or brain lol. I know for sure the lack of carbs has made me where I'm not tired as much during the day!!

Carbs slogs down everything. After I dropped carbs, the fog cleared. I'm processing off of fats for my energy source, and my body loves me for it...

Wanna boost that energy? If you haven't already, start adding a tsp of coconut oil into your hot beverage of choice - it's like jet fuel for your brain!! And down the road, mix in some water fasting - amazing mental boosts!

To me it is the combination - primarily low carbs first, and then of course, it becomes a cascading success - spinning off all kinds of good things from there. But yes, it is low carbs that allow your brain and body to function better...first and foremost.

I am more awake on low carb. There was no energizer bunny boost of energy. It was like I was no longer trying to run through mud anymore.

The only way to truly test that is to go back to eating high carb g or a few days and see how you feel, but I'm not doing it, lol! There are some here who have and they can tell you too, "Its the carbs".

It's the Carbs! At this moment I am suffering from carb overload from a work party, that I did not stay strong for. I had a days worth in one meal and I am about to fall asleep typing this ...... can't wait to go lo-carb tomorrow and every day after and enjoy it!!

LOL seriously though....when I stick to plan, I feel great. I can stick to "healthy" carbs and feel like caca, so for me it's the low carb that works.

It is not just a mindset. Some of the symptoms I was having that are GONE or greatly reduced: Having to get up in the middle of the night to pee or waking up for any small noise and then not able to go back to sleep no matter how tired I was, extreme on edge-nerves-startled feeling all the time, fatigue all the time, brain fog, racing heart/heart palpitations, hot flashes, night sweats, stress, bloating, heart burn at night especially, and I'm sure there are more I'm forgetting.

I am now less hungry, I feel satisfied, I have lost some weight, but more importantly I'm losing fat, I am starting to really see my muscle tone since it isn't covered with fat.

For me its the low carbs that make it possible to maintain a lower calorie weight loss plan, because I feel so much better, less craving, more energy for exercise (and no arthritis pain)!

For so many reasons not merely associated with pride in losing weight........ The endless even energy level, the mental clarity, and the way the brain feels good.... Producing feelings of well -being on an emotional sense unrelated to energy and mental clarity....that fell good feeling that can only be obtained from feeding your brain the fat it craves......... Those are my reasons! And the control over food cravings and the weight loss are pretty cool too !

Maybe, just maybe you are paying attention to your food more and eating a better mix of nutrients

It could be less sugar spikes messing with your energy levels

It could be your body just likes a lower carb higher protein/fat diet

Maybe you few good about sticking to a plan?

I am one that was insulin resistant and fat as all get out a few years ago.

Lower carb balanced out my blood sugar issues and I felt positive losing weight and getting energy back. I ate a reasonable amount of calories and added activity to burn more calories. Next thing you know I was losing weight regularly!

    Success is a joyful thing

Stick with it and enjoy it.

I have done CICO eating on and off for years. I had some success with it, lost weight and did feel better when doing so. However, I could never keep it off.
I have been LCHF for two weeks now, so still early days, but I feel so much better than with my old WOE:
    Less hungry
    More energy
    No mid afternoon slump
    Just generally feel "better"
    Less abdominal bloating
    Better skin

Only time will tell if this is a WOL I can stick with, but I am feeling hopeful at the moment.
TBH, why wouldn't I want all of the above?

    For me...

My thoughts are not consumed by my next meal or cravings, so I have more mental time available.

Less brain fog. No crazy burst of energy, but a steady supply of energy. Whomever said "no more slugging through mud" is exactly the same for me.

I sleep better. Even if I don't get enough, I still wake up feeling more refreshed.

    I *feel* thinner. :)

All the best symptoms of menopause! I'm so glad you're feeling better.
The edge-nerves-startled feeling sucks. It's gone (hopefully permanently!) for me now as well.
