I've been lurking in this group for a couple of weeks and really enjoy reading your successes and helpful posts. I was afraid to dive into the high fat, low carb lifestyle. But this week I started and I have liked it. As long as I preplan and prepare, I'm good.
I would like to add someone who I can bother once in a while if I have ???s.
I am 33 years old and SW back in April 185, CW 160.
Is it possible to have a cheat day on this plan? I think I already know the answer but I just had to ask. Anyone willing to add me??

You can have a cheat day if you want. That's a personal decision. I personally don't partake because, it will be a set back to have a day of high carbs and to be honest, once you get adapted, if you have a cheat day, you are likely to regret it. Most of us will feel stomach upset, bloating or any number of yucky feelings with any reintroduction of carbs.
I also, feel that a certain mental strength is needed for long term success and to me the idea of "cheating" is defeatist. I cheated myself out of the body and health I wanted for the last 20 years. I'm done cheating.
If you feel the need to indulge every now and then, I would recommend doing so with a higher calorie day by having extra servings of buttery or cheesy foods or a nice big steak topped with bacon and sautéed mushrooms! Yum!0 -
Oh, and you're welcome to add me.0

Welcome to the group! There is much to learn here, and lurking is a great way to start (I did too, lol). Glad your start is going well! I'm always open to new friends and help as much as possible with questions. @Sunny_Bunny_ gave the best advice with regards to cheat days. It's true. In the beginning they can derail your efforts very easily xxx then, once fully adapted, the side effects described can be very uncomfortable for a bit. It's still a choice though. Some decide the symptoms are worth it, I don't.
But, yes! So glad you jumped onto the wagon with us! Make sure you read the Launch Pad (at the top of the group forum page)! It's full of helpful information these wonderful older members compiled to help new members find their way! You've come to the best place for support!0 -
Thanks. As far as a cheat day, the reason why is I have a potluck lunch every Sunday with our church family and I hate saying no when someone offers something. Today we had fish fry. Luckily we were one of the family bringing the fish and I just told them I ran out of batter and had to sauteed some without batter. . But I did give in afterwards when coffee was served it was a different story.
But I take responsibility for what goes in my mouth. I have lost 3lbs this week, but I feel guilty eating so much fat.0 -

So well put @Sunny_Bunny_! I needed to read this thread after having a lackluster week while my SIL has been visiting. It's not her fault, it's my own weakness, not sticking to my nutritional guns, trying to be a people pleaser, and failing to plan ahead. I hope I have learned my lesson this time for the next time we have in-laws over, or go visiting them.

The fat is a whole new way of thinking about food. I see it as fuel for my body now, but was resistant (and scared) in the beginning. Work on changing the brainwashed thinking as fast as you can so you can reap the reward of doing so! Once I embraced it I wished I wouldn't have resisted as long as I did. I think I owned a pint of heavy whipping cream for a few weeks before getting up the nerve to use it. Now, it's a staple!0

P.S. Welcome @vazquezmom7! Didn't mean to hijack your thread.0

Welcome.
My cheat days tend to just be more food. I usually eat about 1500 calories but my cheat days are over 2000 calories with just a few more carbs.
For instance, we just had Thanksgiving so I've been eating a bit more. Turkey with a bit of gravy, green beans with bacon and mushrooms, a bit of mashed turnips, and a sugarfree, crustless cheesecake. Big calories but not too many carbs.
But, I am eating to stay in ketosis, and eating higher carb will bump me out of that even if I am still low carb. If you aren't aiming to be in ketosis, you'll have a bit more wiggle room.
Best wishes.0
