On 9-1-15, my doctor told me to lose weight and recommended low-carb to help prevent diabetes. Since then I've had no pasta, no rice, no bread and not potatoes. I'd expect faster weight loss.

Weight loss is often very slow. Often mirroring weight gain! Good for you for starting. People find that water weigh drops in the first week. I found that was true but then it bounced around a bit before settling in to a slow but steady drop. Although on Atkins, you aren't counting calories, I do find that if I eat a lot, my weigh loss is slowed. I am very short and therefore not eating a great many calories. Atkins allows me to feel full, and therefore more able to make better choices. The LCHF (Low Carb, High Fat) thread (which you have to ask to join) has a huge number of people (17000) eating different versions of this style of diet. You can hear about different experiences there.
We too are fighting diabetes and the no sugar, little sweeteners, no simple carbs and very low carbs to start has worked really well for us.
I hope you find it easy and are successful. Starting is truly half the battle.0 -
Just to let you know how effective this diet is about fighting diabetes, my DH AIC dropped by more than 2 full points over just 3 months and he is now in the normal range. If he can get it just half a point lower in the next 6 months, they will reduce his medication. This diet is worth sticking too because it works.0
