Inspiration for the Journey

I've struggled with weight my entire life since early childhood. Lost 90lbs a few years ago by eating too little, living with constant hunger and working out two-three hours a day. It wasn't sustainable, I couldn't keep torturing myself. I regained about 40lbs, by eating a "balanced diet" and working out moderately 3-5 times/week. A conventionally healthy lifestyle made me gain weight. While it works for many, it just doesn't for me. Five weeks on LCHF and I've lost 11.4 pounds and only feel truly hungry when I've gone hours without eating. I don't miss the carbs because I don't miss the way they make me feel. The feeling of bloating and being stuffed and lethargic far outweighs the flavor to me. I now realize how I'm supposed to feel. Steady energy, natural hunger when it's time to eat, in control of food and not the other way around. I really could not be happier with this lifestyle. I'm excited for the journey. I'd love to follow similar people to enjoy this journey with and be inspired by, since I don't have anyone in my life who follows a similar lifestyle. Would love to hear what's worked for you, your tips, and basically just say hi to this great community :)

Thanks! At my highest I was 244.8, at my lowest, 154.6. I regained about 40 and am now around 180. Trying to get to 140. I'm down 13 as of today!! Since 9/17- exactly 5 weeks. Feeling great.

Hi, and welcome. I started eating this way in May, in support of my significant other whose doctor told him he must lose weight and recommended the Atkins diet. I have not been going as low carb as he has, my goal at first was less than 100g, but I usually come in between 40-70. My SO has lost 55 pounds so far, and I have lost 16, without it being too much effort. And I keep doing it because of how good I feel. I used to have terrible crashes if I did not eat on time, but that doesn't happen any more.

I started eating this way in January of this year. I'm sold. I will be a lifetime member of the LCHF club.
I've lost 78lbs so far with very little effort. I did not even exercise to lose the first 50 lbs. My health issues have all but disappeared. I no longer need blood pressure meds. My pain from Lupus, Fibro and Arthritis is practically nonexistent. I don't crave sweets any more. My thoughts are no longer dominated by what I can eat next. My energy level is amazing.
As far as tips: Drink lots of water. Eat salt on everything. Take Magnesuim and Potassium daily.
    Good luck on your journey!

Wow, that is awesome! I have noticed a huge reduction in joint pain, cravings, fatigue, etc. so I'm with you! Those tips are great. Thanks so much!

Sounds like it's working for you so far! This place is a wealth of information, although sometimes you have to do some digging. The search function is a little lacking. The people in this forum, though, are so helpful. Keep it up!

Welcome to the group! Is so good to have you join us!

I follow a near zero carb woe with high fat. Been LCHF since March of this year. Have seen wonderful, unexpected, improvement in the chronic pain I suffered with from fibromyalgia. It's nearly nonexistent now (as long as I still don't overdo the activity)! I haven't worked (I'm an RN) in ten years because of fibromyalgia and now I'm about to return to work! That cannot be disputed! I am in for life! I can say that I will never return to my old high carb woe!

Am sending you a friend request!
