Tins of things always worked well when I was a student.
Tip: If you are damn hungry cannot figure out how to open the tin - next time you go out, you should drink less.0 -
If you like to cook and can get away with butane, get one of these:
http://www.amazon.com/Butane-Range-1-Burner-Countertop-Portable/dp/B0037XBARE/ref=sr_1_3?s=kitchen&ie=UTF8&qid=1372171762&sr=1-3&keywords=portable+electric+stove+top
If you just need a heat source, get one of these:
http://www.amazon.com/Black-Decker-DB1002B-Double-Burner-Portable/dp/B0046XRMB2/ref=sr_1_12?s=kitchen&ie=UTF8&qid=1372171762&sr=1-12&keywords=portable+electric+stove+top
Keep your ironing board near the window with a fan on the end to blow the smoke/steam out the window.
Tape a garbage bag over the board (or get/make a plastic slip cover) so you don't end up ironing grease into your clothes.
For the full vent/hood experience, you can build a cardboard hood for the top half of your window and rig up a fan to push air out.
Now you can cook steak in your dorm.0 -
Dried fruits and nuts (trail mix). We had minifridges and microwaves in one dorm. We weren't really supposed to have them - but a lot of students had foreman type grills or something like this http://www.amazon.com/Cuisinart-GR-4N-5-in-1-Griddler/dp/B002YD99Y4/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1372173472&sr=8-1&keywords=5+in+1+grill is awesome. Another dorm I stayed in didn't have food facilities in the rooms, but there were communal kitchens with a full fridge, stove, sink, appliances, etc. That was nice, since you could cook just like you would at home.
