So I just started eating Primal today and I planned out all my meals, logged everything and was so pleased I made it through most of the day so far with no cravings/temptations from other things. Then while I was chewing a piece of gum...it dawned on me... Gum is not primal... Does anyone still chew gum while eating primal? Is it wrong that I want to continue to chew gum? Would this be "cheating"?
Thanks!
Thanks!

I still chew a piece of gum every now and then. I buy Spry Cinnamon gum as it's sweetened with 100% xylitol....might not be pc (primally correct), but I follow the 80/20 rule.0 -
depends on your level you want to be. gum most certainly has sugar - or fake sugar in it. both are not good for you.0

Does anyone have a good alternate suggestion? I work one on one with people and I feel more confident if I know my breath is good.0

I've been thinking about this lately. I don't chew gum very often, but it'd be nice to have some that didn't have sugar or chemical sweeteners. I found something called SteviaDent on Amazon that I may try.0

Annnnd maybe not. It also has sorbitol and malitol, which give me stomachaches.0

I've bought these:
http://www.amazon.com/Natures-Way-Chlorofresh-90-Softgels/dp/B00016AGBQ/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1372165050&sr=8-1&keywords=chlorophyll
I actually do notice a huge difference. If I drink a cup of coffee in the morning, my breath is awful after. If I take one of those softgels, it takes care of that problem completely. Or at least seems to.0 -
I am not a gum chewing person, but how much sugar or fake sugar can it be in a piece of gum? Probably negligible.
I think if that is your main cheat you are more than fine.0 -
I like mints instead of gum. Or I bruise some actual mint and put it in my water.
Not a fan of gum, the 'gum base' that many gum makers use is artifical.
I chewed a lot of gum many moons ago in high school, and also noticed that I was developing some TMJ, which no longer bothers me.
Try the mint in the water, you might like it!0 -
I remember reading somewhere that gum can be a problem if you're working on retraining your appetite (or do I mean appestat?). It stimulates the secretion of saliva, which is the body's signal to the digestive system that "Food's a-comin'!" I don't remember exactly what happens after that, just that it affected hunger levels or blood sugar or insulin release or something. Worth investigating. Sorry I can't remember more details.0
