Question for runners (maybe dont read if you are squeamish!)

Fairly new to running, I've got a bit of a problem with toe nails. The one on my big toe left side went red underneath (blood, I am assuming) and its been that way for about 4 weeks now. Then tonight I noticed the same thing is starting on the other side. Don't really feel any pain, just perhaps a bit of sensitivity but nothing serious

I run 10k(6 miles) roughly 2-3 times per week, have been for about 3 months now.

Anyone had this before?

You will probabaly lose them, i have lost 4 toenails since running, 2 last week after my last half marathon in April, when they fell off there was a nail growing underneath, but was shorter than original nail.

i assume shoes are correct size and nails kept short etc. 10k is a bit of a short distance for nail loss.

Did you get your shoes fitted in a specialist running shop? I'm guessing that they are the problem unfortunately. It sounds uncomfortable :-(

toes hitting the inside of the shoe at the front is normally the cause, you have been running for while have you recently changed your shoes and/or your socks?
  • Which would running shoes would u all recommend for comfort? At the moment I have adidas run smart trainers but i think they maybe a little small as my toes get sore too from the front of my trainer, but now Im looking for a more slim fit runners shoe?

    Any ideas? Thanks:ohwell:

My answer to this: Go to a proper running shop and get your gait analysed properly. They will then recommend good running shoes for you. Anything else is risking injury.
