Sweetners and carb count

I just ran a recipe for salted caramel mug cake through the recipe calculator. It was reported to have 3.5 net carbs. Apparently, the author didn't count the carbs in the sweetner. While I understand that coconut sugar has a low glycemic index, it also is high in carbs. Should these carbs count?

I personally would count them. Even if you decide to allow a few extra to have the dessert, still count all carbs.

Yes, count them and ALL products that contain the word "sugar" in the description like "coconut sugar" is just sugar and your body will see and treat it as such. Use a sugar substitute next time you make the recipe and it will bring down the carb count.

Coconut sugar, yes, it is sugar and should be counted. The only sweetener I subtract is erythritol.
