:noway:

Just started C25K last week, and today ive just finished week2 day 1. Since starting I have gained weight. They say that in the beginning you will gain due to building muscle, but how long before i see some results?? Any suggestions?

Right now your muscles are retaining some extra water to assist in the repair process. You're not really adding muscle at this point - that process takes weeks (like 6-8 or more). As far as results, I would give it at least a month to see changes from a change in activity/diet.

I'm on week 7 and I've only seen minimal results on the scale... it is frustrating, but I figure it's gotta start paying off soon, right?! Keep it up!

I agree with the above. Make sure you are still tracking your calories as well. If you eat extra calories because you ran, you will not lose weight.

It's different for everybody. I lost a bunch of weight. Some people barely lose any weight at all. What we all notice is rock solid legs and a firmer core by the end of the program.

Remember...your diet is 60% of your weight loss success, 30% is fitness and 10% is genetic. That being said...it is normal to put on a few pounds as your body floods your newly used area with fluids to help repair the muscles and bones you are using. Every runner will gain muscle at first. After about 6 months to a year, you will no longer gain muscle from running, and if you are successfully losing weight while running it can actually be shorter.

If you are using running right now as an exercise suppliment to help with weight loss, then make sure you are paying close attention to what you are eating. Make sure you stick to your calorie intake, and make sure you are hitting your carb/protein/fat markers.

One big thing runners (new and old) fail to remember is that running does not give you permission to eat whatever you want. There are a lot of people (and this inludes me as I have done this lol) who will run then later that night down 1000 calories worth of pasta at Olive Garden.

What?? That's why I run! LOL

I need to make up for the beer I drink on the weekends:

My weight up 7 lbs after doing a 30 minute run last week (after not doing any running for weeks). I had mad DOMS in my legs, thighs, and butt. It sounds silly but it's almost like I could feel my body trying to repair itself. The gain definitely backs that up. Hang in there

I feel your pain. My partner, another MFP friend and I all started c25k at pretty much the same time and all three of us hit a month-and-a-bit long plateau at exactly the same time. We put it down to the running. When we got fitter and the DOMS got less, the scales started moving down, and quickly to catch up to where it "should" have been and then went back to normal trajectory of loss. I maintained an average of 1kg/wk loss over the first year of my loss, despite the time in plateau.

It will be all worth it. What I did find throughout the period of plateau was that I lost cm, even if the scale didn't move. My clothes started for feel looser and my body felt 100% better. Just keep your calorie goal, drink plenty of water, and you'll be fine!

I know it's really hard when you are doing everything right and the scales just won't budge. But trust the process. :)

Thank you so much for that! My clothes are much more loose even though im not seeing it on the scale.. and it feels good when people make comments and can see that you are looking more fit and toned. Im working at it. I have signed up for a 5k in september so i am gonna keep pushing to reach my goals!

It is wonderful that you have not gotten discouraged and kept going! Changes are happening, and you and others are seeing it. That is way more important than some random number on a scale. Scales do not tell you how fit you are. Are you taking measurements or before and after pictures? I highly recommend them to motivate you when the scale is letting you down! :-)
