GERD

My (adult) son has been having problems with almost constant burping. Regular doctor put him on a muscle relaxer which helped somewhat, while he waited on an appointment with a specialist. Specialist did a scope this week and said acid reflux, and also took biopsies, waiting on results. Prescribed medication for the stomach acid.

So my question is, my own anecdotal evidence with LCHF suggests that this woe helps with acid reflux. However when I google searched for diet for those with GERD, they recommend low fat.

Anybody have experience with this, or studies that LCHF can be beneficial for this type problem?

    Anecdotal, but strong.

My acid reflux was 100% diet related.

Cut the carbs, the reflux goes, often within 24 hours.

    Easy enough to experiment!

I have mild acid reflux which is 100% related to my poor eating habits. 1 week doing LCHF and the problem disappears

My reflux was not resolved by changing my eating habits. I medicate but I find I only need to take the drug every three days. If I don't I tend to get awful reflux when my stomach is empty - which happens a lot on this woe since I don't feel as hungry.

I'm not seeing improvements in mine. I take three different meds, and if I miss a dose it still reminds me (though I do have an ulcer healing right now too). I hope to get the ulcer healed and be able to stop, or at least decrease, the medication.

Cut carbs, INCREASE fat (low fat will cause gall bladder loss), take Enzymedica Gold Digest with each meal. You be cured!

@amberguem1969 have you tried not eating or drinking 5 hours before you sleep?

My own experience is that my digestive issues are greatly helped with low carb eating. When I've given in to carb cravings and eaten bread or pasta, I get digestive issues very quickly. They resolve as soon as I get back on track.

I hadn't had acid/bile problems in quite some time. I had a carby weekend (again, I know), and I ate a huge bowl of ice cream at least 4 hours before I went to bed, and woke up a few hours later with killer bile burning me. Ate some pretzels to soak it up (knowing it could have made it worse while I slept), and went back to bed. Certain types of carbs are harder for my body to handle, but with a traditional LC meal, I can eat and immediately go to bed without this problem, so I know it's the combo of carbs/sugars, dairy, and me...
