^Boy, I've missed a lot of workouts.
Well, I just survived a crazy week. DH arrived nearly a week ago. He came with two suitcases full of crap to add to my house. And Lil girls birthday was this weekend. Celebrations were Friday at kinder, Saturdat at home (and in Skype), and yesterday at greatgrandmothers. (Yes three cakes, God help me!) My activity level has fluctuated daily depending on what I was doing, such as ordering the special cake for school or shopping for presents, etc, between normal 5k steps and >20k steps. Did find myself running late and literally running to pick kids up a lot. Lol. DH has worked late some, leaving me to do everything as normal but he's handled a couple of mornings for me.
He's already booked his return for one day after sons birthday which is less than a month away now. He will go for a couple of weeks and return right before Christmas and then work long holiday hours here until New Year's Day. I feel like I'll get the hang of all this eventually.
Yesterday was the marathon here. I'd seen lots of foreign runners all week in our neighborhood, out for an easy jog around the Acropolis. Seeing so many runners made me happy, but the big day made me a little sad. My ankles are mostly okay now, but overworking them always makes them stiff (and crackly) and there's still this one spot in my calf that just kills me randomly. I don't see it getting any better and I haven't run in nearly half a year. I'm thinking I'll just assume that wrt that, walking and running are no different so I might as well run!
Hoping everyone is getting along well. I'll be back when I have better things to report.0 -
Hey all! Crazy weekend! The girls had a kids obstacle course race that was only about half a mile long. They had a blast! Middle child got nervous as it was her first race running without the whole family. But they let me run with her and she loved it. My parents grabbed the kiddos and hubby and I set off for Lake Havasu. Had race check in, and then grabbed food. Set up our stuff for the next day and then off to bed. I haven't raced much this year so I ended up with a lot of nerves! Our hotel was only a mile down the road from the transition area so we just biked there to avoid the hassle of parking. We got there with plenty of time, got our area set up and body marking done, then wrestled on our wetsuits and waited for the start. The swim started poorly. All the adrenaline from my nerves mixed with the cold water and the constricting of the wet suit to bring on what almost felt like an asthma attack. I managed to calm myself down and finish the swim in 30 minutes...which beat my best time by 1 minute! Imagine if I had been calmer at the start how much better it would have been! My bike sucked. But everyone's did because they had changed the Olympic course to include a new neighborhood..,that had hills with 45 degree inclines! I ended up walking the top half of two of those hills, but I have yet to find a lady who managed to bike up all of them so I don't feel so bad. So it definitely wasn't a personal best. Plus those hills were only at mile 8 and then I had to keep biking for another 16 miles after killing my legs on those hills. I was glad to get down and start running for once! The run was relatively flat, and I killed it! I'm not a fast runner and it usually is my worst of the three. But this time I managed to finish the 10K in 1 hour and 7 minutes. I didn't walk at all, and felt good. I even pushed it the last mile and kept a 9 minute pace for that last bit. Overall, a lot of fun! I got first in my age group, and 15th overall amongst the women. I'm not sure how many total were participating. But I was at least half way up the list and people were still finishing when I checked.
This week is just trying to keep a normal routine for myself and the kids. I'm eating and keeping food well-balanced and getting plenty of workouts but still not dropping weight. I'm frustrated and disappointed with that, but I'm wondering if a lot of that is due to stress. I'm going to take this afternoon to start truly analyzing priorities and start trying to shape my schedule to better reflect that and start dropping things that are on the bottom of that list. The past couple of weeks have been going more smoothly since hubby no longer has school work. I'm hoping this is a sign of things to come for our family. Fingers crossed!
I read all your entries and hope you all are doing well! I should be around more this week now that the crazy race is done! Of course I'm still volunteering for IMAZ this coming weekend, and then the following weekend we head out to MN to spend Thanksgiving week with family. But hoping to try to keep a good routine going. No more biking or swimming...just focusing on running as I train for my first full marathon! Ahhhh!
Have a great start to your week!0 -
Congrats on the race Val
wow!!
Sherry, good to hear from you.
My life is so boring now that I am home and settled compared to you all...
I just did 3 mile walk on beach Saturday and 3 mile walk on steeper part of trail on Sunday.

Sherry, that's one heck of a check-in. I'm pooped just reading it!
VAL, CONGRRRRRRATS ON YOUR RACE! YOU ROCK!
Marla, beach walks sound lovely to me.
Just trying to get through the day without inhaling all the food. So far, so good. I prepped all my meals and snacks yesterday so it was easy to make the healthy choice.0 -
Nice to hear from you Sherry! And I loved coming here tonight & seeing so many entries.
Congrats on the race Val!
Yesterday I took a bonus rest day. Just needed it. Today was beautiful so I got in my planned 2.5 mile run after work (at the track because it's getting so dark out), then went to Walmart, then went to the gym & hung out a bit waiting for my Jason session. Had a good workout.0
