Fiber and low-carb

I've seen threads here about not getting enough fiber and suggestions to make sure to eat certain foods with fiber, that make me wonder. e.g bananas - a banana has 27g of carbs and my goal is 25. I've even seen potatoes mentioned - I haven't eaten any for 4 months

What am I missing?

I don't remember ever seeing bananas or potatoes as suggestions.

How about beans? - I have 2 tbsps of humus and it grabs a bug chunk of my allowance. - I just saw a thread abut beans and low carbs.

I don't try to achieve a fiber goal myself, but I've seen people mentioning green veg and things like chia and flax seed as a good source.
If fiber is going to be something you need to reach a minimum of, you will no doubt have to allow a few more carbs for it. Whether it's from beans or seeds/nuts or green veg... Will have varying impact on the total carbs.

Black soy beans are the best. There are 7 grams of fiber, 1 gram of sugar, and that's it for carbs in a 1/2 cup serving. Fermented sauerkraut has nothing but fiber. Avocados have about 6 grams of fiber and 2 grams of other carbs in 100 grams. Other than that, non-starchy veggies like leafy greens are a good bet.

My fibre every day is what it is. I don't consume anything specifically for fibre. It's just a number I can subtract off my carbs at the end of the day.

I'm finding after a several months on this Keto - that my body needs much more fibre that it used t. My insides are not happy in ways I never experienced before. I don't get the rice, bread, beans and the bulk foods that I used to. I ended up going of Keto one day last week just eat lots of high carb stuff and my it normalized things, but now I'm 3 pounds over.

Chia seems a possible help since I count net carbs only

I need to keep my fibre over 30g everyday, chia seeds and avocado's are my go to.

I think no sugar Metamucil has helped me. Around 5 carbs, but worth it to carry out some of my bad cholesterol. Also flax - try the 60 second microwave flax muffin recipe. Good amount of fiber, protein and it curbs hunger for several hours.

Don't forget many people count "net carbs" and not total carbs. Take the total carbs of whatever you are ingesting and subtract the fiber grams. Now you have the Net. Many people consider the net to be their allotment for the day.

I use net carbs mostly (like for psyllium I think its safe) - I use a plugin that adds that column on MFP

We could help you out better if your diary was open or if you shared what you eat.

What do you eat normally? It's possible that there's something that you're eating a fair bit of that you didn't normally eat that's causing you problems. Cheese, for example, is a common one for stopping people up.

Also, what foods were in that carby day? It's also possible it wasn't carbs, but something else within it.

Generally speaking, the fat sort of takes the place of fiber's "lubricating" job, and if you're experience GI issues, something's not quite right with your setup.

Considering a) Metamucil is insoluble fiber, which isn't used by the body and just passes through (it's dietary packing peanuts, essentially) and b) cholesterol is created by the liver in response to stimuli, I'm...pretty sure it doesn't work the way you're saying it does...

Hey, if Metamucil is helping you, that's great!

I have a protein shake sometimes and add 1/2 tsp guar gum.
