I made it through a week of lower carbin' it (last week). My stomach was happier, felt better. My mood sucked, though, soooo bad. I didn't like watching people eat my favorite things. It wasn't thaaat hard, but it was annoying. My crappy mood poured into Mon/Tue this week and I tanked on the carbs. Chicago style pizza, mexican feast, chips and salsa...killed it. And then I paid. My stomach churned, I felt like I was going to throw up last night. So uncomfortable. I reluctantly (with a bit of a sad face) shifted back to low carbs today - and I'll be damned if my body hasn't sent an obviously clear message that carbs are the devil for me. No stomach pains at all, no uncomfortable-ness...nothing. So I went to the store and bought some "comfort" food to help my mentality (read: Atkins bars). I'm still in a sh*tty mood about it, but it's just my childish temper tantrum. I want pizza. I want cake. You know...the woe is me syndrome. It'll pass...but it's 50 shades of real right now.

You can have your pizza and low carbs, too: http://www.ditchthecarbs.com/2015/04/23/fat-head-pizza/
And make fat bombs for those times when you need a treat. kcko!0 -
I know how you feel, but it does get a Lot better. Just hang in there!!0

(hugs)
I found it hard at first too. Glycogen tanking wasn't good for my mood. I let my sodium get low at first too so my moods did improve when I increased my salt intake.
Hang in there. It takes a while for new habits to form and find new favored foods.0 -
Remember...the first two (2) weeks are always the toughest because you are going through (1) carb withdrawal; and (2) sugar withdrawal....both of which are contributors to your crappy mood! Hang in there. Give yourself some credit for sticking with LC for a week!! It WILL get easier but it does take time and effort. And I second what @camtosh said above: it is possible to have your pizza and eat it too (or cake, or whatever it is you are craving)! There are TONS of free LCHF recipes available online. The launch pad section of this group also lists 2-3 DOZEN of the more popular LCHF recipe websites. So do a little browsing, find a recipe that speaks to you (or your tummy), and try it. Bet you can't make just one!0

All my digestive issues cleared up when I went low carbs. No heartburn thank heaven. It's always a balancing act even so, every once in a while my inner teenager takes over and won't listen to reason.0

Make sure you get enough sodium, too. My low carb family always bounces back, mood-wise, after a cup of broth!0

Thanks, friends. I'm relieved to hear some understanding. It's hard to complain much to my family, although it's usually met with sympathy. I think the 'understanding' part is lacking and I feel like I'm coming across as a complainer (or "then don't do it" kind of vibes). Sometimes you just need to whine about it. I've done this before - the Primal blueprint. I got pretty good at it, but something happened and I stopped doing it. I can't even remember what made me stop, but I sort of wish I hadn't. Going through the annoyances of the changes again is frustrating. My numbers are all wonky, too. I can do really well with carbs one day, but then the calories are way off...or I do well with calories and the carbs suck. I know I'll find the balance, I have faith - the bumping through part sucks though lol.0

I would always prefer to be way off on calories and nail my carbs.0

Whether i like or miss certain foods pales in comparison to losing 125 pounds, reversing 3 health conditions and feeling younger than i did when i was young. I had an insatiable sweet tooth and it was hard to let it go for good. But really i have, and try not to dwell. I like to paint and dance and make things - i like to go out and listen to music. Now if i need a binge, thats what i do. Feels better and looks better on me. Good luck, just make the decision to let go of that food as an option and you might feel good!0

@glossbones - I'm still so "calorie" trained in my head that I struggle with that, but I'm trying to shift my thinking. I've heard a few times that the first thing to nail down is the carbs, then sort of tweak along the way to hit the macros of choice.
@tsazani - I'm very happy to hear that! I think it was a good thing for me to blow it for two days. My body spoke to me during that time and it wasn't a very loving conversation haha. Lesson learned, though. If I want certain carbs I need to be careful with it. Or just forget them.
@elize7 - that's amazing! Congrats. My choice for low carb is mainly to help keep my PCOS in check. I could stand to lose about 20 pounds or so, but I'm otherwise healthy. I've also noticed a few food intolerances develop through the years and the LC seems to really squash that issue. I love your idea of letting the food go as an option. I hadn't really considered phrasing it that way, but that may work for me! I'm going to try it
You guys are awesome, thanks again0
