I say bring on the rain. It has helped some of us down here in Texas get out of the drought.0

LOL, I say bring the rain too, it's the hurricanes I don't want, lol. I'm only 5 miles from the gulf coast.0
-
Yes, by all means be careful down there.0
-
I will gladly share my rain with you both. We are having the wettest December in the history of Portland.0
-
This is turning out to be a wetter than usual December for quite some time for us also. YAY!
My company installs rain gutters among other things and we are extremely busy. Everyone wants to get prepared for El Nino and even the new home buyers are taking the optional rain gutters instead of the usual "who needs gutters" attitude we've seen in the past. We are so busy we are booking 6 to 8 weeks out and people are getting cranky about it.0 -
I sure hope they are putting that rain in barrels for later use, lol. We are getting plenty of rain here now, we went about 7 or 8 years in drought and it got pretty bad. The hill country was losing lakes and people were losing their lake homes because the wells dried up. I don't know how much of that has been restored yet but I know it's much better than it used to be. Hopefully everyone can get out of drought.0

Unfortunately not too many people are storing it.
We have had lakes dry up (such as lake Hodges right up the freeway from us) and reservoirs severely reduced.0 -
Most people don't have a place to store water that I know of. Very windy here today.0

Wow, Lake Hodges dried up, Wow!0

Yep, Lake Hodges is totally gone.0

We put up gutters this year, plus a water catchment system. It's not very big but so far we've gotten 1377 gallons just since August, I still have one 275 gal. tote left to fill then I'm full. This will give me plenty of water for my trees and garden next year for when the rain doesn't come.
Plus from what I hear on the weather channel we have had 65 inches of rain at the DFW airport. That is where they get the official total for up here by me.
I track my rain totals at my house and so far we are at 56 or 57 inches, which is a record compared to 2007 when we got 50 inches of rain.
Right now we are out of the drought and I pray that we stay out too.0 -
Enjoy the gutters. How will you get the water from the totes to the garden?0
-
Brilliant Tammy! I wish we had some sort of system to catch the rain. We are supposed to have rain 4 days next week! Yay! I have the same question as Debora, how will you transport the water?0

Well Ladies for the totes I am using just a water hose and using gravity other wise I fill up several 1 gal. jugs and carry it over to what needs watering. My husband did buy a water pump but he still has to plum it all together.
My fruit trees are doing okay, with them being in the ground for just 1 year they haven't produced any fruit yet. I'm being told that it will take at least 2 years for the peach trees, 3 years for the plum tree and the same for the nectarine tree. Plus this year I put in a Fig tree and I will have a second one ready to go in next spring.
My garden is doing just okay, this is my second year trying to grow corn but not very good at that for some reason. The yellow squash is doing okay and so are my tomatoes.
I have also started to learn more about composting.
Sorry it took so long to get back with an update.
Isy - Did Lake Hodges ever fill back up?

Interesting. Good use of resources Anew! Composting is also very good for many reasons.
From what I can see of Lake Hodges from 15 it is still dry but I would assume it has some water in it to the west where the reservoir is.0
