Tips for the morning after a carb-binge

Hi guys, I'm still new to this WOE.

I finally started a VLCD after facing the facts that my history of PCOS (and accompanying weight gain, dysglycemia and fertility challenges) obliges me to try the low-carb thing properly. I was averaging about 120g of carbs before, but for the past week have dropped down to 20-30g. Obviously, I feel amazing - clear-headed, not as hungry, little cravings, etc.

Yesterday, I had a lot of carbs and sugar at a social event (probably around 150g), today I am back to my WOE but feeling excessively hungry and having trouble concentrating. Any tips for getting over this more easily, or do I just have to give my body time to readjust?

Thanks for your input.

Time to adjust yes. But to speed it along I have lots of water and make sure I get all if not more of my fat allowance, keep protein good but be tight on carbs. Watch over exerting yourself with excessive exercise, but do say a weight/strength session but don't up the reps.

The longer you are on this, I found my body recovered quicker if I had a blow out. Mind you my blowouts in the last 4 months have been 50-70g. Listen to your body to learn how it responds.

Thanks so much @SuesNewImage It's week 2 now and I'm able to hold myself to 20-30g carbs per day, because it's still a new "diet" in my head. I'm having trouble envisioning a lifetime of this :frowning:

So, if glycogen stores were depleted and you'd increase carbs(glycogen is restored) then maybe find a way to deplete them. Exercise seems to be the answer for most people. Good luck. OP with 22-30 pounds to lose(according to your profile) and maybe I'm not understanding the "c" in VLCD but you may need to watch your overall calories and make sure you are receiving adequate micro and macro nutrition. Each person varies with what they are attempting to do. Again, good luck.

Don't over complicate it. Just get back on plan and like Taylor Swift says, " Shake it Off!" Your body will get back to ketosis on its own particular schedule. The important thing is to not allow one slip to turn into months of off plan gorging. Good luck!

Exercise and getting back on your plan have been covered admirably, @Terrapin and @daylitemag. I'll add "don't waste time and energy feeling bad." One day off your diet, if it only happens rarely, doesn't mean you're going to be way out of ketosis for very long. (You only had 150 g. You'll be back on track in no time).

    Exactly.
No guilt, but no excuses. It's in the past. Learn from it and move forward.
