Can you believe it's December already? This year has flown!!
What are your goals for the month? How are you going to fight off the calories that come with all the Christmas goodies? What are you doing to combat the weather if it's cold or bad where you are? (We've had a lot of rain over the past week, but still in the 50s and 60s.)
My coworker puts weird holidays on our calendar here at work and a lot of them are food related this month. Today is eat a red apple day and Friday is National Cookie Day. We also have cotton candy, maple syrup, chocolate, and bacon on the calendar. For a little fun, the 16th is Ugly Sweater Day, and the 27th is Visit the Zoo Day - that might be a fun way to get a walk in!!
Have a good month everyone and happy walking!

I was going to use our walking plan to calculate how many miles I should hit. It's really hard when they are timed walks vs mileage and I came up with a number below 100. So...instead, I'm going to fight for the goal that I didn't hit last month.
120 miles, 10 days at 5+
Our plan is Tu/Th at the gym on the treadmills for timed walks. Saturdays will be mileage walks, I prefer outside on the greenways, but the boyfriend will probably want to go to the gym...hopefully the weather will hold out for a couple of outside mileage walks. We aren't officially starting the plan until Jan 18, that way it ends on the day of the 1/2 that we want to do, but my plan is to repeat the week 1 workout until the 18th. The bf wasn't convinced that he's in the shape to do week 1! (It's only 3 miles on the first Saturday!! And the timed walks are 30 - 40 minutes.) Monday and Wednesday are days for cross training, weights, and stretching. I'll probably take Mondays easy with some stretching, but Wednesdays, I plan to go to the Zumba class that I went to a couple of weeks ago. It was a lot of fun and a coworker has agreed to go, as has the bf's sister if her husband gets home to stay with the kids in time!
I'm working to build my support system and have more people that I'm accountable to. At least to show up, and I'm more likely to do that if someone is waiting for me!!0 -
My goal is make 120 miles and really really am going to try harder to make 10 days over 10,000 steps!!
I hope to maintain my current weight - or lose a few pounds. Need to tone though. A friend wants me to go to a trainer with her and do circuit training.
mlh - I enjoyed Zumba too.
Happy December everyone0 -
Day 1 success! We made it to the gym and I was able to maintain between a 3 and 3.5 mph pace, mostly at 3.5 for 40 minutes. The bf (who has way less to lose) had a hard time. He's so stubborn! I've tried to get him to get some good shoes (even bought him some that he refuses to wear) but he says that his everyday tennis shoes that he can slip in/out of are fine for working out. Maybe he'll listen to me someday!!
1st - 5.11 miles, 1/100 -
Morning all...thanks so much for starting us off mlh!
Fighting a cold for three days now...sleep is totally messed up.
Goal for the month 125. Yikes, what was I thinking.
12/1 4.94
12/2 2.27
I will catch up with you guys later...it's all I can do these last few days to get up in time, shower and get to work.

Hope you get to feeling better Magic! I get that sinus crud from time to time and it's a pain to get over. Hopefully your bug moves on soon!!
Zumba on day 2!
2nd - 5.06 = 10.17, 2/100 -
I keep trying to think of a goal for the month that will push me . . . I think it will be to do slightly better than last months 224, I think 230. That will be a push because the weather has changed and I tend to not want walk in the cold. Funny thing is I always enjoy it once I get into it but starting can be a beast!0

Day 3 - not so great. The BF was sick when he got home from work and we didn't go to the gym. We (or at least I) are going tonight. We are considering yesterday our rest day.

I am still fighting this cold...it is not full blown yet, so i am able to get the mutt out after work for a walk and some fetch. Stay bundled everyone, try not to get a chill. I really think that is the culprit...at least in my case. (I don't care what the experts stay).0 -

Good to see everyone chugging along!! My weekend didn't exactly go as planned, but I made my priorities to go and see a movie and to get to the Humane Assoc for a little dog walk therapy! Those goals were met. We also got most of our Christmas shopping done. My side is done, need to get for the BF's mom and g-ma. And laundry. Lots and lots of laundry was done this weekend.
4th - 3.01
5th - 5.58
6th - 4.11
Total = 24.81, 3/10
Adc, you mentioned you are almost at your daily average to hit your goal...I never figured mine. **EEK** (ooh...3.9 per day...a couple of low days, but I think I'm still on track!)0 -
Adc...I've always wondered...what do you do? Do you have a job where you're on your feet a lot, or are you just really good at staying motivated to move? LOL...I'm always impressed with your numbers!! Sitting at a desk for 8 hours a day is not conductive to high mileage days! And it's amazing how tired you can be from sitting all day! I would love to know your secret!0

Hi mlh37214, I am a receptionist, so I sit all day. I do workout in the morning and try and walk to or from work a few days a week (that's a little over 3 miles each way). I also walk at lunch to help clear my mind and get my buddy to get our of the office. I agree, sitting all day is tiring but I find when I workout and/or walk in the morning and at lunch I am not so drained. My daily mile goal is currently 6 miles, it was 7 - basically because I am competitive and I found trying to do 7 each day was a bit much.0

Nice! You are awesome!!! I was betting on nurse, or something really active! You put us all to shame. That's a pretty great plan you have in place. I agree, I always feel better when I work out. Even just a small walk. I leave for work at 5 AM, so I barely get up in time to get a shower and get dressed before leaving! LOL...since the pup passed away, I don't even get a short walk in. That will change after Christmas, b/c we are adopting. I need a walking/workout buddy! Walking to work is not an option (12+ miles) but I do try, despite getting here when the parking lot is empty, to park in the farthest spot from the door.
Thank you for your response. Shows me that excuses are just that! Sitting at work shouldn't be an excuse for low mileage days!!0 -
And on to the bad...very low mileage yesterday. Something happened to me at work. I'm thinking low blood sugar, but I didn't really do anything differently. Got really dizzy, sweaty, shaky, and nauseous. (Usually the low BS starts with shaky and I know to eat somthing, but this didn't.) Had to have the BF come and get me on his lunch and went home and to bed. Going to see if I can get one of my coworkers to work a Thurs or Friday for me and schedule a physical with my MD. It's been a while and I'm far too young to start having "spells." LOL...that's what I used to hear my grandmother call them, anyway! I feel fine today, a little bit of a headache, but probably sinus vs anything else. Going to try to make it to the gym this evening and get some mileage in, as long as I continue to feel OK.
7th - 1.56 miles: 26.37, 3/100 -

mlh, I get that low blood sugar thing too...so sorry to hear you got sick at work. Hope they find out what it was...since you think it might be something different than low BS.
the other day I was walking Ernestine and had to steady myself against a parked car cuz I all of a sudden got so dizzy...good luck sweetie...hope it is nothing.

Thanks Magic! I'm hoping that's what it is, it just didn't start/progress like normal, so I want to be cautious. I've scheduled a physical with my MD to have things checked out...it's been too long since my last physical, anyway! They weren't able to get me in as quickly as I would have liked...it's scheduled for Christmas Eve...on the + side, I won't have my results until after Christmas...LOL0
