Can she say this?

At Barre Burn yesterday, the teacher announced "I see we have all ages here today".
Yes, I'm 51 but I don't think I look "so old" ... I'm not stooped over. Most gym classes are populated by the very young, I'll admit ....
But was that nice or even necessary of her to say? She wasn't that young either - she must have been well into her 30's.

She can say anything but that doesn't mean it's accurate.
Too bad there isn't female Groucho Marx but I think you'll get the idea..

Was she new? She meant it to be welcoming. And to let others in the class know that the work of the class was good for everyone.0

I would give her the benefit of the doubt. I don't think she meant anything by it other than to observe that the class attracted all comers. Now if she said "Welcome, Granny" that would be different.

You might be taking offense when none was meant. Look at it another way, she might have been sending a subtle message to the YOUNGER audience that fitness isn't just for the young - it's for everyone.
Who knows, maybe a parent of a younger attendee will be encouraged to go because you are there. Wouldn't that be totally cool?
I'm your age too. I love it when I see people our age at fitness classes.0 -
Perhaps her comment was directed at the 18 yr old in yoga pants... just sayin'0

I know that I work hard and people who know me have told me so. If I hear an occasional comment that rubs me the wrong way, I just use it as motivation. I go to the gym to pick a fight with my belly fat and no one else.
