Low carb Sick Food

I'm sick (fever, chills, cough) for the first time since I have started this WOE. Traditionally, when I have been sick I turn to baked potatoes and orange juice, both of which are no longer options. My question to the forum is what do you eat when you are sick? Also, I don't like cauliflower so that's not a good potato sub for me.

Something like a chicken-vegetable rather than chicken-noodle soup. Lots of broth and tea. Sugar-free Jell-O is sometimes appealing when I'm having a hard time stomaching other things (my sore throat likes it, too). Coconut milk and chia seed pudding.

I've not been sick yet but my go to prediet has always been cream mushroom soup!! Carbs or not I think I'd have to stick to it but if I couldn't I would go with broccoli and cheese soup made with chicken broth? I'm sure there's a lot of option you'll get here, good luck!!!!

Poached eggs (with lots of butter). That's what my mom fed us when we were sick when I was growing up, and it still works well for me.

This is a good topic. I've not been sick yet and I need tips because my go-to sick food is French fries. Not sure why but I swear they cure everything. haha

I'd say mostly broth, creamy soups, and the bulletproof hot chocolate recipe from the breakfast idea thread sounds like a good option too.

Oh man memories....I remember when I was getting over something my mom would serve soft boiled eggs in her fancy egg cups with buttered toast soldiers. No toast for me anymore :)

How about cream cheese and egg pancakes. They really are yummy and I think would be gentle on the tummy.

Chicken broth! Ideally, home made or actual "bone broth" and not just store bought "stock." Bone broth has a bunch of nutrients that can help you feel better, and it's easily digested and healing on the GI tract. You can do just the broth or add chicken pieces and veggies if you can handle them right now.

What I often do with home made is make a batch, then pour it all into ice cube trays and freeze them. Once they're solid, I pop them out and store them in a container for when I need them. Then, I can pull off half a dozen or so, heat up, and enjoy a cup of hot broth. :)

Soup, soup and more soup. I have bad morning sickness and I am living off soup/broth.

    Pork crackling is tolerable too.

I used to crave orange juice whenever I got sick prior to making this WOE a lifestyle change. Now instead of orange juice I'll have a Steaz zero calorie iced green tea because it's very high in Vitamin C (hence why I always craved OJ when sich previously) and this does the trick for me instead while still keeping to a LCHF WOE:

If you do decided to try one, make sure you check the can carefully. Unfortunately, their full-sugar and/or lightly sweetened cans look nearly identical to the zero calorie kind so it's very easy to get the wrong kind. Also, their flavors are very mild so be forewarned that you may not like the taste. I also recommend dissolving bouillon cubes in water and drinking that as an easy and soothing broth.

Very timely thread - I'm sick, too! I would be thrilled to have some chicken vegetable soup right now, it sounds like absolute heaven to me! I think I'll make some tonight if I can...if not maybe tomorrow.

And the best news is that, anecdotally at least, people get sick less often on this WOE.

Sick this week and came across this recipe. It's very quick and easy to make when you have no energy to cook and it hit the spot. (I have a sore throat, cough, fever, and my appetite's a little off so a lot of my usual keto foods just don't sound good to me right now.)

I used minced garlic instead of the garlic chili paste.

I ended up making a simple and easy chicken soup using rotisserie chicken, chicken broth, and sautéed onions in butter. It was really good. Would have been more nutritious to have made my own broth but I just didn't have the energy.

My sick foods used to be toast & mashed potatoes. Lately, I had chicken broth, avocado (I just eat it with a spoon) and a few walnuts.

Well...I noticed last night I was just starving and eating and eating all my low carb food choices. Went to bed early last night and noticed that weak feeling inside..yes fighting something so thus the cravings for FOOD! Chocolate is calling my name as it's all over the office but I'm trying my darnedest to stay away from it. When I get home maybe some bullet proof hot chocolate :) Thanks for this thread, it is helpful!

Try melting some coconut oil in broth. Very tasty and easy to digest.

@kirkor Thank you. It was posted just a day or two before I really started here.
