UTI and menopause

Well, this weekend I developed my very first UTI. You could have knocked me over when my doctor explained it was likely caused by the lack of estrogen now that I am post menopausal. Will the fun never end??? Apparently, if you get three within a year they recommend estrogen cream or something. I avoided HRT because my mom developed a rare form of breast cancer due to HRT, so this option is not appealing to me.

Just a heads up ladies if you suddenly start developing UTI symptoms. :/

Add 4 oz cranberry juice twice a day to your diet - it will help. The acid in the cranberry inhibits bacteria from sticking to the bladder.

Yup. I've had 2 this year. Good times!

If you don't want to drink 8oz of juice (calories, sugar, whatever) the cranberry pills apparently work as well.
