Low Carb Sweetness

I've tried stevia, which I hated, Splenda which is okay, not great, but not horrible, and I have erythritol on the way in the mail. I'd like to be able to sweeten my whipped cream and make some low carb chocolates. I don't care about the calories, just the carbs.
They all have an aftertaste, but it's part of the deal when you forego sugar I guess. I like Splenda the best taste wise, distilled stevia the best nutrition wise, and Truvia doesn't taste bad, even tho it's not as pure. I have a hard time trusting any of them to tell you the truth, but... It's that or sugar and sugar is off the menu!0 -
Another sweetener that is hardly EVER mentioned, but my absolute favorite (taste-wise) is Monk Fruit. They have it at Walmart and other large grocery stores.
If you get that sweetener, you'll throw away all the others....

I'll have to def try that. I've never seen it, but not really looked.0 -
I use stevia or splenda. Our go to dessert is "milkshakes": Ice, 8 ounces HWC, 8 ounces unsweetened almond milk, cocoa powder, sugar free choc. syrup, a little stevia. Blend. Or instead of chocolate we have made them with vanilla extract or Mio flavoring.
HWC? Heavy Whipping Cream? Handle with Care? Heavyweight Champion? Hazardous Waste Coordinator? I'm hoping its the cream one.0 -

lol. Yep heavy whipping cream.
Where's @DittoDan with his handy dandy definitions blog link?0 -
If you're having fruit with cream try some cinnamon instead. Teissiere are doing a sugar free addition for coffee in a couple of flavours, available in Waitrose (UK), similar little bottle to the Robinson squashed0

Monk fruit is wonderful.

Perfect! I hate Stevia too. Is there a brand of monk fruit that you recommend, @DittoDan ?
Its Monkfruit in the Raw

I haven't tried Xylitol but I have heard it's the best as far as "healthy" I am going to buy some soon.
I like both Stevia in the Raw and Splenda.0 -

I saw monk fruit the other day at the health food store but didn't know anything about it.
Hmmm...might try it. I kept thinking it might taste like an actual piece of fruit0 -
I never got around to buying Xylitol but now after reading that it is toxic to dogs, I won't be buying it. He gets people food sometimes and I am not there every minute to tell people they can't feed him this or that.0

Erythritol has no calories and is a lot less likely to cause you the gastric distress that larger than moderate amounts of xylitol can cause. That said, I mix erythritol, xylitol and inulin, and that is tasty. Erythritol doesn't dissolve well if you use enough of it to sweeten something like a cheesecake all by itself.0 -

Thank you @DittoDan ! I think they have this at my local store.0 -
I have yet to find a sweetener I like. I have some erythritol and Swerve in my pantry, but I have yet to try them. To be honest, I am a little wary to try them since I have had so little luck with other sweeteners.0

Monk Fruit In The Raw is ok if you like lots of Maltodextrin.0

I'm sorry, but your definition of "lots" strikes me as funny.
.8 grams of any carb ~ is not anything to get worried about.
Now if it was 10 grams, then you could have a small concern.
But the whole weight of the packet is .8. It doesn't state how much
of it is dextrose, I doubt its very much, because part of the.8 grams
has to be the sweetener itself.
And to further negate this "lots", sometimes I only use half a packet.
I hope this helps,

Hey Dan, have you ever used the monk fruit as a sweetener in cooking? I just bought a package of organic monk fruit sweetener to facilitate some low carb/low glycemic impact baking I am experimenting with and I can't find much first hand knowledge of using monk fruit.

Not really. I haven't found a good keto bread replacement recipe that is baked. I have tried many of the simple bread replacement recipes, but they all didn't taste that good to me. Any of them where there's a lot of egg in it, just tastes like scrambled eggs to me. The other nuts flours just don't work for me. Not only do they not taste like flour, but their calorie count is humongous.
I suspect you could bake with it, because that's how sweetener replacements are used.

I think I'm ok with the dextrose in it because like @DittoDan said, it's about how much you really use it. Since I am on a mission to reduce and hopefully eliminate artificial sweeteners in general, I only use 1/3 of a packet in a whole 10oz of tea or coffee. I don't really do low carb desserts so I'm not eating a bunch of sweetener that way either.

Dan, I just said lots because Dextrose is the first ingredient listed so there is more Dextrose in each packet or box than Monk Fruit. In the Raw products pull the same garbage with their Stevia in the Raw more Dextrose than Stevia, so the name of the product should be Dextrose with some Stevia. The name is my problem with it, In the raw to me means the product whatever it is, is unadulterated with other things good or bad.0 -

Natural Mate Stevia/Erythritol blend. Makes amazing baked goods. I'd love to try Xylitol but it is poisonous to dogs and mine counter surfs way too much.

That's a very good point and I don't like that the ingredients compared to product pitch are misleading either.
I am generally against any of the dry forms of sweeteners for exactly that reason. I do think I will keep monk fruit around though since I use so very little of it.
I'm trying to get myself psyched up enough to do a cold turkey quit on artificial sweeteners. I did it with sugar but I'm finding it more difficult to just stop using them completely now. I have done really well on the "weaning off" though...
