He's actually doing it!!!

He being my husband. For those who don't know/remember all the crazy details of my chaotic world, hubby was told he is diabetic a few months ago and played around with the idea of going low carb but never committed to it. Three days after Christmas, his stepfather (who is in his 50s) had a stroke, and hubby once again told me he was going to start taking care of himself for real this time. He's never been good at treatment compliance (or, to use a much more positive term, treatment participation), so what he meant was he would actually take his medications and actually eat right. This man had steadily become worse and worse at sneaking candy while I was in bed, late night cake and ice cream, and sitting down to a meal that consisted of meat, pseudo veggies, and 6 different kinds of carby junk foods, followed up with the aforementioned candy. Anyway, he literally threw away the Pop-Tarts, pies, ice creams, candy, a new box of donuts he'd purchased the day before, and various other crap food while I was at work one day. Now he's eating mostly like I eat. It's only been a couple weeks, but I'm back on the meal planning and prep wagon, and he's relinquished all grocery shopping to me (because he knows he has a hard time resisting things in the store). I'm so proud of him. I just hope he stays committed to his health. I have long had my concerns about his health, and it's nice to see him taking it seriously too. Anyway, that's it. I just wanted to share that with you all.

Awesome! Hopefully he will quickly start feeling better and that too will motivate him to stick with it. My SO noticed he had a lot more energy (and he has dropped 55 pounds and 3 pants sizes).

I was excited when my hubby finally jumped in too! I think he realized that this isn't a diet and began really seeing the benefits for health! I'm so happy for you!! It makes life sooooo much easier!! Here to good health for your husband too! I know you have been a great example of what this woe can do too!

That's awesome! I hope he sees great improvements!

I wish my husband would follow a better plan. He's got NAFLD and needs to take better care of himself. He did 2 weeks of keto with me and then quit and is currently eating all the junky carbs. :(

Great news! It is so much easier when your spouse is involved. I know I do a lot better when my wife is eating the same WOE. We can plan, shop, and cook together.

Good for him and you! I am thankful that my hubby usually follows what I am doing. We do get him extra snack such as hummus and nuts, but he pretty much eats the same as I do. I think as long as I am filling his belly he's okay :D

That's great news - I hope he sees the benefits soon to help him feel motivated to continue.

I managed to remind myself over Christmas how addictive sugar is, so I have some sympathy with him being sneaky with food. Back on the wagon now.

My husband has IBS and has now committed to the low FODMAP diet to try to ease symptoms. It now means we have two different ways of eating that do have some things in common, but restricts further meals we can have in common. No onions, no cabbage, no cauliflower... He can still eat potatoes which obviously I don't and also gluten free carbs. He can't eat polyols and all the fake sugars I sometimes use if I make a very rare low carb dessert. I expect we'll get used to it eventually! I struggle with low FODMAP as it's not intuitive what is OK and what isn't.

I'm very happy for you and your husband! It sounds like he's made this decision on his own... which to me is a sign of his commitment to do this for himself - you can fool your friends and family by sneaking around, but there is no fooling yourself.

I wish you both the best of luck!!!

That's fantastic! Hope he feels the benefits and keeps up with it! Having him on the plan should help you, too!

That's great! DH's diabetes diagnosis is what got us both started on low carb 3 years ago. His doc says he has reversed his diabetes and she is amazed by his A1C. Hope your DH sticks with it and sees similar results.
