Dreaded Keto Rash

@AshleyC1023 You might ask a doctor about taking benadryl, if you're alone, waiting for an ambulance, just in case it takes longer than expected. The epi pens give you time for it to take effect. I was an idiot once, but a lucky one, and went into the lab to run DNA samples when I had a hint of hives on my face. By the time I got to the ER, I could barely see through my swollen eyelids and I looked like the elephant man. And it was for school, not even for a job!0

I have that handy all the time. The 2nd time I started out lightly itchy (and was still on the prednisone and a shopping list of other drugs to include benedryl) and ended up using my epi pen because it progressed fast. So I had taken benedryl an hour prior, and got a high dose at the ER because their first dose wasn't effective. Just weird. They suggested a food allergy, but I hadn't eaten at all either time since the night before. The allergy specialist said it wasn't a food allergy at my age and finally Dx'ed it as "Idiopathic anaphylaxis". I never got hives at all, and trust me, those ER docs made me strip down to check everywhere and nothing. I haven't had an episode since June 2015, so we never determined a trigger for it.

After my morning reading I might try lemon juice, coconut oil and selsun blue (dandruff shampoo) as well. I do think it's related to candida die-off, but that's my opinion. Lots of conflicting info out there! I'm also taking a strong probiotic tho some ppl say it helps and others that it makes it worse.
Number one defense: forcing myself not to scratch which is very difficult. Started on the nape of my neck, has since popped up all over except below the knee nor on my face. I even have itchy bumps on the palms of my hands. Thankful it's not on my face tho.
I am on a probiotic regime diet now with all kinds of fermented foods. You are correct, this is a die-off. I get similar reactions because I dove in head first into the probiotic/fermented veggies too fast.
Here is what I found for immediate relief: (you're not going to believe this)
I take a blow gun hair dryer and on the highest heat setting and bring it close to the affected area. I get it as close as I can stand it. Hold it as long as you can. Take it off, and the itching should go away. This might not work in certain parts of the body. If you don't have a hot enough hair dryer, use hot water, but apply warm water, and SLOWLY raise the heat until you can't stand it anymore.
Long term: I took a multi-culture probiotic capsule and opened it and poured it into some liquid coconut oil. I had two rashes on both of my shins/legs. To test whether it worked, every morning I applied the probiotic/coconut oil to only ONE leg for a week. The leg I treated ~ cleared up, and the other leg didn't. I then treated the other leg.
Also, these die-offs are good for your body. Candida is one of the baddies.
The only time these rashes can be dangerous ~ is if you start getting a throat swelling, choking reaction.

@AshleyC1023 my sister was dx'd with that as well, hers started after her children started having the same problem. Hives itching asthma anaphylaxis. After a lot of drs and testing they were eventually dx'd with mast cell activation syndrome. There was a time period where they couldn't eat almost anything without having reactions. They now have it somewhat under control with some new medications. Hopefully what you have doesn't happen again but it might be worth looking into if it continues.0

Mine has turned out to be an allergy, not the dreaded keto rash.0

Lithezebra, do you know what to? We think mine might have been caused by dish soap but were never able to confirm it. I tossed out everything that was new to our house, and now I test dish soap at the store ( before I buy it, I put some straight on my hand, and walmart is next to the hospital, lol)
Whatever it is, I hope it gets better, itching sucks!0 -
I don't know what it's to, but my lips puffed up, a lot, I took Benadryl, and everything was much better in the morning. Now I've got the dry peeling again.
I hope that your allergen is gone for good, @AshleyC1023 !0 -
@JessicaLCHF update? Is it gone?0
