Quality is key for me

Hello
I have been tweaking my food habits for a number of years now, more and more towards high quality eating. I'll admit, I am getting more picky, old favorites do not taste so good anymore and many things do not sit well now. I mean things I used to eat often.
I rarely eat fast foods, from restaurants or in the home - because now they just don't sound good. I am getting better at being stocked up with the components of delicious meals that leave me feeling good.
I have been trying new recipes quite often. Some of them stick and become regular. I love the all recipes website and app. Basically anything you want, you can find on there and in the reviews people will add tips and variations. Very helpful for me making better food!
One thing I have noticed is that in the beginning, higher quality means more time spent preparing food. But it is a learning process and once you start getting the hang of it, it becomes normal and takes less time. It is so worth it!!
There is such gratification in a high quality meal, snack or drink, a true pleasure.
For example I have two small cups of coffee most days. I use a French press, grind the beans, heat the water in a glass kettle on the stove. It takes twenty minutes or so, but I love the coffee so much, the flavor! I rarely drink coffee anywhere else, because it doesn't taste good, and I have tried! So when I make it I usually do something else in the kitchen.
I have switched to all glass water bottles and kettle specifically to help me drink more water. I did this a few years ago, and it has helped me drink more water. I don't like the taste of water in plastic.
And that's just water!
I also buy frozen loaves of bread and bake those, because it is so much better than pre Baked! Some day I might bake my own, but I am not there yet. It takes one minute to grease the pan, put the loaf in and cover with paper towel to rise. Later when it has risen I throw it the oven for 25 minutes, let it cool for a few hours then bag it up. I buy bread bags in bulk on Amazon. I have a bread slicing board and slice as I go. So it is not as quick or convenient as just buying a loaf - but it is satisfying! And I go through times where I just buy bread, when I am sick, busy stressed.
It's all about quality for me, because high quality is the most satisfying and leaves me feeling great!
So yeah, let's talk about the food!

I like your style, Chrissy! I've been moving towards my current eating plan for a long time too. All about the glass containers for drinking water too. And for my coffee, two pods of Nespresso with a shot of raw heavy cream from grass-fed cows.
Arriving at high quality food choices was such a long process for me. But one day, when I realized that I was worthy of eating good food, and not pounding junk just to manage my emotions and the dramas of daily life.0 -
Hi Geo! It really has been a long process, but so worth it. I've learned a lot, but mostly how to listen to my body. It lets me know loud and clear if I eat something it doesn't like, lol. Yes you are worthy of the best quality foods!
It is so fun trying new recipes and then tasting them, something about taking the time makes the flavor divine! I can get serious pleasure from good food that makes me feel energized and just right. I am trying to learn new ways to make fruits and veggies, as I am shifting away from meats more and more. It is not intentional, but I find that meat doesn't always sit too well with me.
Sorry it took so long to reply, I am still getting the hang of this forum and using a tablet too. Good too hear from you, take care!0 -

Food is fun for us foodies. I know a few people who aren't interested in the nuances of flavor, or cooking. Weird!
I made a cross rib pot roast with mushrooms, onions, and garlic this morning. It's for my son's dinners while I'm away this next week. It was difficult not to eat it! The house smelled so good. The mushrooms and onions cooked down into the wine and meat juices. Perfection! (He's so spoiled!) I don't know that I could give up eating meat.
There are a few foods, as I've gotten older, that have started to bother me. Cabbage, coconut, all things soy, milk, wheat, and quinoa. Avoiding the soy and wheat has gotten quite a few foods off my list of things I was eating that I shouldn't have. But me and most animal proteins, we're still good. Can't eat poultry (or eggs from them) that's been fed soy feed, or farmed fish.
