I just worked out at 5am for the first time and got about 25 minutes in before I started to feel a little weak. My fbg was 78.

Anyone have experience with this? I've got some carbmaster smoothies that I'm going to try, 90 calories and 12 g of carbs. Does that sound like enough for a 40 minute elliptical workout? I should add that I will eat again a few hours later for my morning snack. I'm have tight control on my bg, so I don't want to put myself in harms way. Thoughts?

I found, when I used to bike to work, if I had a banana before, Imdid okay. It was am45 minutes ride, with a major hill,at the end. I would have cereal after. Now, mind you, I wasn't diabetic at the time, but my doctor always told me to eat first so as not to lose steam.

I'm typing on my IPad this morning, hence the typos.

Thanks! i started eating a greek yogurt before my exercise and I've felt much better. Though eating the thing at 5am is not fun.

Yeah, I ate the banana at 4:50 am. But, you get used to it, almost look forward to it.

well, 78 is certainly on the low good range. The carbmaster has 4 net carbs, so that should not help you too much on the energy since it'd take longer to convert the protein over to fuel. As far as exercising before eating, that can work if your fasting glucose is high enough to take the energy expenditure, but if you're in ketosis, your body will draw upon the fat and the yogurt might just be a mental help more than physical. Just my thoughts. Good workout!

@phxteach Yeah, the carbmaster vanilla smoothie only has 6g of carbs, half what thought and it was awful! But the greek yogurt has 15g so that was much better! It's funny, if I wait an hour to take it, my fasting number is 15 or 20 mg higher! Thanks for the reply!

Just browsing through and what I do is have about 1/3 cup of oatmeal and same of blueberries and of course water...on running days I add a coffee to it..It gives you energy and no dropping levels..I can eat it up to about 30 min before...then I just eat the rest of my breakfast when I finish. You likely figured it out by now as you are doing fantastic!!

Yeah, having to eat that early to workout was not fun. I rather do it in the evening or at lunch!
