    If production of this hormone is higher when glucose is restricted then it might suggest very low carb or ketogenic diet might also produce this effect? I have been low carb for 14 months on and off (looking at holidays and Christmas in particular!).

    Nothing quite replaces fasting. In the case of animal product consumption, you are getting the hormones from the animal. The magic comes from how the body, particularly the nervous system, can affect repairs on the body since no blood is required for digestion. Mark Mattson's research has been very enlightening in particular.
