The Benefits of Habits

They say if you do something every day for a month it becomes a habit, good or bad. Who says this? IDK But I think it's got some truth.
I hate eggs. I don't like the flavor and I don't like the texture and I could barely choke them down as a kid. But eggs are cheap. A bfast of a fried egg and coffee is cheap and fast and relatively easy. And they are high protein and low carb. So.
I decided a year ago to start eating bfast. I noticed through logging that when I ate bfast I ate less throughout the day (especially at dinner which used to be pretty much my main meal of the day).
So even tho I hate eggs, they are so cheap, I decided bfast (since I hated eating bfast anyway) would be a good time to get my egg in for the day. For a year now almost every day I've had one fried egg, covered in a slice of melted cheese (usually Munster), and a heavily creamed coffee for bfast.
I made cheesecakes last night and planned on having one for bfast but when I got up, my body didn't want it. It wanted it's hot and cheesy egg! Surprise! Habits!
Plus... Melted cheese makes everything better.

So much truth!
Cheese makes EVERYTHING better.
I think maybe opening up the possibility to yourself of something non-egg worked a wee bit of psychological trickery on yourself. Just having a choice can make things better sometimes.
Habits are SO important. They pave a path of least resistance so easy that you can eventually follow in "autopilot" without much effort. That's one of the reasons I've been so successful. Fake it until you make it. As in "fake it until you make it an ingrained habit." The momentum of the routine makes the habit your new normal. That's why allowing bad decisions to creep in is so disastrous. Then, the bad decisions become ingrained bad habits overtime. You follow the path of least resistance...and you go down a bad road.
Consistency and planning. Key principles to develop good habits instead. Then if you get bored with the scenery on that path, it's not like there aren't 8 million LC recipe sites to give yourself options. And people will find, like you did, that the scenery really isn't all that bad if you have choice. Sometimes you choose the ol' SSDD over the new and exciting because you find that you actually like it, or at least your body does.
I eat a small variety of the same things every day. Some days I might try something different to shake it up, but I always migrate back to the good ol' standbys. I miss those boring, monotonous things. The mind can be sooo fickle.

Ha, I can't even eat eggs without cheese! But fluffy scrambled eggs with cheese and salsa verde are my go-to quick breakfast---I make them in the microwave.
I think you are so right about habits. Having a default position for basic daily food choices really eliminates stress.
