You only need to watch about the first 1:30min of that video to get the idea.

It's extremely difficult for folks to give up the high sugar, heavily processed foods b/c those foods hit the Dopamine pathways hard! (and yes, sugars and other flavor enhancers are intentionally put into foods so we "pursue" those foods over and over).

Think about it: what foods can we eat way past satiation? yeah, candy, cookies, pies, etc.
what foods can we eat and walk away? celery, radish, spinach
hmmmmm?!

These foods have very different chemical effects in the brain.
The only reason we overeat and crave and are "motivated" to eat crap foods is the neurochemical drive.

So, the cycle: We eat the crap foods, they activate Dopamine. Then when we see those foods, see a commercial on TV, even think about those foods, Dopamine is released...and that's the pursuit of happiness...we approach, and seek out those foods. (just like the monkeys...we got that figured out)

Again think about it: Someone brings in brownies...why are you craving them, thinking about them, fighting in your head?...b/c there is a heavy chemical "motive" in the brain...the Dopamine feel good drive. In that example, can you feel the dopamine release driving you to the brownies?

Cleaning up the diet sounds easy, sure. But, yes, it will take some WILL to overcome those neurochemical associations. More about building new habits tomorrow.
