Chocolate vs Magnesium

I never thought it would happen, but I think I'm losing interest in dark chocolate.
I started taking 400mg/d of Mg Citrate a month or so ago. Could it be Mg saturation that's causing a change in cravings? Anybody else experience this?

I've had a jar of Nutella sitting on the shelf since the early days of keto. I still eat dark chocolate, but have no real urge for more than a bite. And I do take Mg. Anything is possible.0

I just checked pubmed, and it turns out there are multiple studies on chocolate cravings, including a Portuguese metastudy that looked at 57 studies.
I couldn't find anything that supported the magnesium connection. It's all in my head. But I kind of miss that chocolate buzz....0 -
Yes, I have noticed a huge difference in chocolate cravings since starting mg supplements.0

I wonder if a lack of chocolate craving can indicate that your body has a good amount of magnesium in it? I never really craved chocolate, maybe that means I shouldn't supplement.0

[GASPS] Say it isn't so @wabmester!! lol
Good working theory though. Wish it applied to me. I do take a daily magnesium supplement but find that I still crave chocolate 2-3 times a week.0 -
Not me! If there's dark chocolate in the house I'm going to eat it. I've had milk chocolate in the house since before Halloween, and have no desire! Weird things happen with this woe!0

I've taken Magnesium for years and still got chocolate cravings.0

I never really had cravings for chocolate. Not even in my pre Keto life.
I did sorta use chocolate since Keto to satisfy any sweet craving I would have because it seemed to take care of it without just making it worse.
I have noticed that I don't eat it as much these days, but I've really attributed that to my big reduction of artificial sweeteners. However, I have doubked my magnesium dosage in about the same time frame as well as added high dose vitamin C. Interesting????0 -
It was mentioned in the later part of this podcast that chocolate cravings are a sign of low magnesium. This person also believes magnesium citrate isn't a very well absorbed form and recommends glycinate

@wabmester. I usually agree with you. Unfortunately this time my body disagrees with the Mg - chocolate theory. I've never been big on chocolate. Plates of it can stay untouched in the fridge door for months. I used to have terrible cramps as sugarburner. After I started supplying Mg 3x/day --> cramp free!
Maybe you have some other micronutrient defiency that choc used to satisfy, but you no longer need? What other things have you changed lately that might coincide with the disappeared of buzz for chocolate? ...or are you accidentally doing lower carb/burning off more w running? At 100g I find my sweet tooth is awakened? At 70g, I rarely even think of sweet stuff. YMMV:)0 -
That is interesting!0
