Marla, I did very little in August on the island but never got better. But I also didn't have high heel shoes to shorten the calf while it healed (something I've only learned recently). As far as overuse, that was the conclusion I reached in September when I was walking for exercise and it just got so much worse. So I stopped walking too and now take the bus from tutor neighborhood everyday. But there's no way for me to lower my activity any farther. A regular day of just school and tutor drop offs and pick ups is around 13,000 steps. I think I save about 5000 on days he doesn't go to tutor. Evenings and weekends I run my son ragged so I can just sit with my legs resting ("bring me the phone", "turn on the hot water", etc) because they are usually sore feeling by then. I hope your hubby's hand pain gets better. I had tendonitis in both wrists after my son was born (apparently it's common post-partum) and that's how I came to take a month of ibuprofen (very successfully) back then. I had a great D.O. who gave me the ibuprofen Rx, and since have heard of many other moms who had surgery for the same symptoms. So be careful that he doesn't get roped into surgery before exploring other possible solutions. (I highly recommend D.O. as PCP, because they look at you as a whole, not just single symptoms). I've also had thumb pain (same as my mom had surgery for) that I solved by self-massage of a certain lower arm muscle. Wish I could solve my calf pain the way I have other things. Maybe time to try self massage on my calves again.
Laura, all I can say is that I would never agree to that! Lol! Good luck. I'm sneaky, I'd probably just start my Fr, Sat, and Sun with 100 burpees just to get ahead of the inevitable, knowing how my weekends can be. Lol!
Today and tomorrow, I'm cooking a bunch of stuff and food-prepping for the week and will take kids to their school extracurricular activities in the evening. Plans to do some rearranging of the kids rooms between today and tomorrow. Legs sore today. Guess I'll massage and see if that helps.0 -
Sherry - That is so frustrating! Given where you live, I'm assuming that walking is just how you get around. I used to live in downtown and parking was impossible so everyone had to walk. I might check with my dad (He's an ER doc) just to see if he has any suggestions. But it seems like you've tried pretty much everything.
Marla - Praying that your conversation with your step-daughter goes well and it puts some things in motion to help your hubby!
Laura - My training never had me run more than three hours. It's discouraged as after three hours you don't increase your endurance or fitness, but do increase your risk of injury significantly. I did have some issues with blisters on the sides of my toes and worked those out with body glide. But I think using the body glide on the sides caused chafing on the top. So live and learn for next time!
Well, our yard was a construction zone but I got it all picked up! Also have the cupcakes made as well. I just need the kids to take showers and pick up the house this morning, and frost the cupcakes. Also need to call the cake place for the baby shower and make sure they have enough for us. Otherwise, just time to run around and prep things and then celebrate! Hubby took the day off tomorrow so I'm looking forward to some calm after all this crazy! We had a bonfire last night, and hubby and I watched the new Mission Impossible movie after the kids went to bed. So still had some family time which was nice!
Have a great weekend!0 -
Step daughter sent me a long great email and I feel closer to her as a result, only goes to show taking the step we are afraid of is a good thing!
Today is hubby's bday and I overate at breakfast, skipping lunch because we are going out to dinner but thats life!
Sherry, Laura is right your step count is high even at your least amount, its too bad you can't do less but I know you have no choice because of the kids. Make it your number one priority to force your hubby to get you medical insurance. I read Greece has single payer, is there nothing you can do to qualify since you are permanent residents?
What does he do for a job there?

Marla, the problem isn't qualifying. We have it, he just hasn't paid. He has the money in the bank but can only take out 60 per day due to capital controls, which would take weeks to get all the cash out he needs to pay. Normally you can just take the bill to the bank and have them pay (different system here), but not once it's late. So, because he was out of town he was late and must pay at the office, but can't get all the money out at just 60 per day. At least that's how he explained it to me. Plus he's always so busy when he's here bc he's preparing for the next trip. It's a mess, and frankly he's terrible at cleaning up these kinds of messes which usually get really bad bc he doesn't want to face them in the early stage. I've also got some legal problems with my name that's affecting our lil girl school registration...all because of something he handled with the embassy 12 years ago and wasn't careful or insistent about having it done correctly back then. Sigh.
Glad you and step daughter are getting closer and maybe can help your hubby. Happy birthday to him!0
