Logging food

How many of you are strict with your logging? I'm trying but admittedly I forget a lot of the time. I know it's an important part of the process, but I just can't seem to make myself do it. I used to have a routine, but I fell away from it. Any tips?

I'm 1 year post-RNY and still log religiously. Not logging is exactly what got me where I was. Surgery isn't magic and it won't compensate for bad habits; it only accentuates good habits. I've lost so much and come so far. I refuse to go back. That means I must log religiously.

Thank goodness I find it so easy to log. Sometimes I log my meals ahead of time. This keeps me focused. Maybe if you plan meals ahead of time and log them it would be easier for you. If you decide to add something else to your intake then its easier to remember that one(or more) thing then the entire day of food.

It really helps force discipline. I logged religiously for first 9-10 months after surgery, then I thought "I've got this - I can eyeball portions, I know when I'm full, I make good choices now". It was sort of true, but not really, and I've more or less maintained for the last 4-5 months. Really want to lose another 10-15 pounds. Started to religiously measure again about two weeks ago and I started losing again, and I don't feel like I'm depriving myself. Never did really, but if I don't measure, that extra dessert or glass of wine or bagel sandwich sneaks in when it wasn't planned or really fully appreciated.

I log religiously! Everything I've eaten in the last 7 months is in my journal. I log the day before and pack a bag with all of my food and water for the next day. This keeps me on track and allows me not to focus on food all of the time. For me it is rewarding when I remove food from my journal because my eyes were bigger than my stomach.

I'm a bad example. Logging food just doesn't work for me because I can't do it consistently and not doing it consistently makes me crazy. I do measure and weigh foods which are very calorie dense (nuts, seeds, chocolate, etc.). I also measure out most of my meals to keep everything within a 1 cup total. Even if I don't feel full cues, I am able to stop when I'm done.

I also weigh myself everyday when I'm at home. Also driving me a bit crazy right now because I'm traveling every week at the moment. Weighing everyday gives me immediate feedback. Whether or not that feedback is legitimate or not is another story!

Now at just a little more than six months out...and only about 15 pounds to goal; I may do some logging because I think that I need to increase my calories to compensate for the amount of exercise I'm doing. I eat a wide variety of foods but I am structured about when and how much I eat. Right now I am hungrier than I have been and I want to head it off by eating enough to begin with rather then ending up with too much snacking.

I'm an in-betweener. I log fairly consistently while I'm at work, where I eat breakfast and lunch, but dinner is spotty depending on how much time I have at night after helping kiddo with homework, getting him bathed and in bed. I tend to document it all the next morning at work.

Same here. There are days where I completely miss out on logging. I really don't sweat it though, since my eating routine is pretty well-established. I am definitely better at logging while at work, than on the weekends.

I should get back in to it, and start logging everything, just to shock myself back in to my proper plan. There have been some shameful cheat days, especially with the recent weather. I'm still losing, which means I'm not straying too far off the path though.
